I think I just caught the ends of a sentence on Sirius/NFL that implied that...
EDIT: just heard the rest, just a visit.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a match here. He's a decent QB. If the kids fall on their faces, he'd keep things from going completely off the tracks. I just hope they don't have a competition and let him beat them out. That wouldn't serve much of a purpose. We need to find out about BOTH Petty and Hack this coming season.

Although at that point, I'm sure we'd all like to see the team just mail it in and get the #1 pick. 5-11 doesn't do us any good.

Well then we are in luck because he is 2-20 over last 22.

From what I've read, he'd be a good mentor to the kids. If neither can beat him out, then we'll suck for Sam, no matter who the qb is. I'd prefer McCown to Cutler.

Yeah I think Cutler is last in just about everyone's list.
Talk about a guy with a ton of talent. It's sad that Cutler is such an ahole, that nobody wants him as a backup.

McCown is the main guy i want to teach Petty and Hackenberg the nuances of the game and how proffesionalism carries you a long way.
Sure he's a journey man, but he's a tough player who leaves it out on the field. He's a QB that you actually root for.

Came across this video and thought what a great person this guy is to have in this rebuilding locker room. Leader that the young kids can learn from.

Vacchiano reporting the sides (McCown and Jets) are progressing towards a deal. Despite not having met with Cutler yet.

I honestly think the whole Cutler work up is all fabricated from the media trying their damnedest to link the two together.

Macagnan is rebuilding this team with exception of having veteran leadership guiding the young ones in the right direction. With that being so, Jay Cutler is far beyond the price range that Mike would divulge into. No way he pays a 30+ year old $5+ Mil as he'd rather spend $2-$3 mil on a guy like McCown, Who has an excellent locker room presence.

If Cutler wouldnt mind signing for $2 mil, then i'd say there may be intrigue, but noting more than that.

Vacchiano is getting this info from "a source close to the situation", so take that for what it's worth. But he's usually pretty accurate with the info he gets.

I think McCown is a better fit with where the Jets are at right now. Not a big difference maker, just a guy who will keep the ship from sinking and possibly have a good influence on the young guys.

Terrible player. He's the Brian Scalibrine (sp?) of the NFL. I'd rather roll the dice with Hackenberg and Petty. At least we know they can improve. McCown is already a finished turd.

This nonsense about having someone show you the ropes to be a professional is bogus too. If you have a good head on your shoulders you'll know how to carry yourself in the locker room

This is exactly the kind of veteran backup I was talking about. He doesn't have any previous ties to the organization, he won't threaten the kids for a starting spot, but he also can help them learn the trade off the field and during practice. Much better option than Cutler for getting the most out of the young QBs.

Think he's the perfect backup and mentor. I keep hearing that he will make a great QB coach one day. That's is exactly what these two kids need in the QB room. Fitz filled that role too to some degree. My hope is that Hackenberg makes a big jump this offseason. We'll see what happens.

Well, you might get your wish. Latest report is McCown left without a deal.

I think that is good news. I know many disagree but I don't think Mac and Bowles are looking at any of the free agent QBs to just be veteran backups. They want them to start. That in itself speaks volumes on the development of our two young QBs but I still rather have them out there than some washed up player who has a track record of not being very good.

i'm still holding out hope, maccagnan has a clue.. if he wants an unnamed veteran JAG QB to start, i'm done with him..

If you want the top pick, you want Josh "Tank" McCown. This was posted on another board I follow, but apparently originally via Reddit:
Josh McCown's teams have received the #1 pick in two of the last three seasons, and the #2 pick in the other year. In his 12* years as a QB, his teams have had a top five pick 6 times.

• Arizona Cardinals (2002–2005) - 3rd pick in 2004 draft.

• Detroit Lions (2006) - 2nd pick in 2007 draft

• Oakland Raiders (2007) - 4th pick in 2008 draft

• Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014) - 1st pick in 2015 draft

• Cleveland Browns (2015–2016) - 2nd pick in 2016 draft, 1st pick in 2017 draft

Besides Byron Scott, is there a better tank commander in sports?

*Although he has been in the league 14 years, he only took snaps at QB in 12 of those years. 2006 he lined up at WR a few times and in 2010 he played for the Hartford Colonials.
