Good...The Jets signed him as insurance.. I think clearly they want either Petty or Hack to win the starting QB spot. McCown is just a safety net. If either fail to win the spot. We pick a QB next year. If they win the job and suck we pick a QB next year. I am ok with this signing.

Josh McCown's 1-year deal with Jets is worth $6 million fully guaranteed. Also has $2M in playtime incentives, $5M in team-based incentives.

With this signing and how the language is written out, puts the onus on our two young signal callers to battle out for the starting job with insurance of a veteran backup...

Many scenarios here:

Petty isn't healthy to compete this off season then the battle for starting role comes down to how far along is Hackenberg... If he isn't showing enough to take the job now we have McCown starting the season...

If Petty is healthy for training camp the battle between Hackenberg and Petty will be something interesting to see and the winner will be the starter while McCown could be the backup even the third string...

Maybe the Jets feel Hackenberg needs another year as the clipboard guy to further his development... So that means they hope Petty can take the job and now have a veteran backup in McCown as the number two...

If Petty isn't ready to compete, then it is McCown to start the season until Petty is ready to unseat him as the starter when healthy and has put in the work in practice to build chemistry with the offensive unit...

Either way it is anyones job to win...

I wonder if Petty gets cut if he doesn't figure it out this year? I expect the team to take a flyer on a late round qb.

Assuming they don't draft Watson or Trubisky.

This is the amount Fitz should have been signed to last year.

Wow, mirror image of each other. In my opinion, I think Fitz was/is the better QB. He's had good seasons followed by some very bad ones. McCown, has been bad throughout. He was good that one year where he had Marshall and Jeffrey to throw the ball to. Let's just hope he's here as a backup.

EMBRACE THE TANK!

Good news - the least bad option - not a lot of $$ and not a guy who will needs to start.

Throw them into the mix... I don't care what reporters say or pundits. I have the belief of you draft the best QB you can in every draft till you have a franchise guy..... I would take Trubisky or Watson this year and let them all battle out and let the chips fall where they may. And if the young guys aren't ready, fine, keep moving forward. And if Petty and Hack don't cut it and Trubisky isn't ready fine.. Go into the next off-season preparing for the draft and if we happen to be in a position to take one of the the top 2-3 QBs than do it..... I am tired of not having a QB... Until we have a franchise guy we will be a roller coaster of 10-6, 8-8,4-12, 7-9, 10-6, 5 -11.... I could care less about this need or that need,,, Until we get a QB we will never be a consistent winning franchise..... Take a QB every year... Take the best one you can every year....... with that said I think it would be nice if this we could trade down and grab extra picks and take one of these QBs that falls to the 12-20 pick... Kizer, Mahomes, Watson whoever.... Keep picking and let the cream rise to the top cause it eventually will..

Well since Fitz s numbers are double mccowns, and he's 5 years younger, I'd have to think he'd win. It sounds like he's retiring, no rumors about interviews. I think last year he was willing to retire on a high note, and felt fine sticking to his guns.

Sounds nice but in reality it doesn't work. How could we possibly evaluate three young players with actual playing time including the #1 offense? Can't happen. Either they cut one of the existing guys so they can actually get a shot somewhere or sit tight and evaluate both Petty & Hack. If both fail in 2017 then they should grab a true # 1 in 2018. They can position themselves this year to move up by moving down and accepting future picks due next year.
