I couldn't find any videos of both offense and defense. This is just Sanchez's play. He really came through during the playoffs. Tanenbaum really built the team the right way then. Solid online and solid surrounding cast. Hopefully we can get back to that level but I feel like Mac neglects the oline.
the downfall began when they thought Sanchez can lead the team but he was and always will be a game manager that needed an all star cast to succeed.
The downfall actually started with Tanny earlier than Sanchez arriving. Vernon Gholston the year prior. He did do a great job building the team, but he failed miserably from 2008 on. So really you're talking about two successful drafts, 2006 and 2007, in consecutive years and terrible drafting from 2008 on.
However, in 2008 he also had a tremendous Free Agency haul. People forget that very important point. Adding Alan Faneca and Damien Woody to an already decent OL with Nick and Brick hitting their primes? That officially launched the OL into the stratosphere. That combination was EXCELLENT. They dominated the LOS. What's even better is that in both 2009 and 2010, when the playoffs began the OL entered the "ZONE". They played so much better than they had during the regular season. They always had that extra gear that they could do that. They regularly established LOS SUPREMACY. The only thing keeping the Jets from winning those games was creating enough offense to win the game while keeping the ball out of the hands of Sanchez as much as possible.
They also got Tony Richardson and Calvin Pace. They also traded for Kris Jenkins. Adding those 5 to an already good base of players made the Jets a SB ready team. Why Mangini sucked so bad in 2008 still amazes me? The Jets should have made the playoffs that season and gone deep. Did he forget how to do his job?
But YES their downfall came when Tanny thrust the Jets into cap trouble and had to cut a lot of their talent base. Not to mention, Tanny hadn't drafted any decent replacements for departing players like Tony Richardson, Damien Woody, Alan Faneca. It's also worth noting that all the while they had this very good team, the Jets still had ZERO depth. They just got tremendously lucking with players that almost always stayed healthy.......
