Teams offering a 4th for Richardson

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reporting that two teams are offering the Jets a 4th round pick for Sheldon. One GM told Cole that he'd consider an additional pick, like a conditional pick in 2018 based on playing time and an ability to sign Richardson long term.

I don't think we're getting anything better than this, folks. We might be better off just keeping him and getting a comp pick in 2018 when he signs elsewhere.

All I can say is sad......think about what we put into him & we can't even get a full 5th bottle of whiskey for him......... Write this one off as a big loss

His value definitely isn't going up. Everyone knows we aren't going to sign him. Take the pick and try not to think how the Jets botched this up.

I say we hold onto Richardson. No point of trading him now. Why is everyone so down on him? Yes, he's an idiot and has off field issues but his play from last season is not the true Richardson.
The coaching staff put him out of position. Hopefully they put him in the right spot next season.

No question he's a very good player. But we've committed to Mo and Leo for the future. We cannot tie up such a huge chunk of payroll to the d-line. Other positions have to get paid in the near future. Richardson isn't going to be a Jet in 2018.

If Macc is truly committed to a rebuild, it'll be interesting to see if he unloads Richardson for cheap just to prepare for 2018 and beyond. No question a 4th round pick return is gonna hurt though.

sounds like you just answered your own question..

i don't want this self absorbed lazy prick around a bunch of impressionable young players..

realistically, we are going to be a bottom tier team with or without richardson next season.. if that means getting a 4th now, instead of possibly getting a compensation 3rd later?? so be it in my book..

Yup, tying up so much money with such little production is a waste.

I don't think the Jets botched this. I think Richardson's antics botched this.

I'd prefer a third, but I suppose if there was a second pick, a conditional pick, along with the fourth, I'd do it, just to wash our hands of the situation.

You get what you can for him. If he was a disciplined player with leadership intangibles then i'd vouch not to trade him.
Though he's Josh Gordon 2.0.

Why take a risk with this bone head being suspended one year in which his spot on the roster can be delegated to a younger player in the 4rth round with an actual head on his shoulders in what Mac is trying to build here.

As Sack said, Richardson Botched a golden opportunity a be paid a very handsome amount.

I too agree with Sack. This is all on Richardson. Though I do wish the Jets had moved on from him before the season instead of trying to make him a LB, or playing 4-3 with 4 DTs.

Parenthetically, Bowles is a 3-4 coach and our D was pretty good when he stuck with that.

Let's not get our panties in a bunch. What 4th is it?the Browns? That's practically a3rd rounder this year.

We are expected to be a top 3 picking team next year. So two things are coinciding. One, Richardson is in a contract year, so if he's worth a damn we can expect excellent play from him. 2, we're not going to be competitive. So we will be in a position where we could trade him in season without hurting our playoff chances, in a year when he's expected to impress. I'm fine maximizing his trade value in season.

If a trade doesn't happen, we have options. Either he played well and we trade him, or he plays poorly and we sign him cheap with clauses for suspensions linked to crime and drug use. We know he has the talent, in this scenario we are buying low on a guy with pro bowl potential, trading him for a pick in season, or just getting a3rd round comp pick.

you would want us to re-sign this dope if he can't even be bothered to play to his "potential" in his contract year??

frankly, i don't believe it's crazy talk that next season will be the last time this guy plays hard for us or anybody else..

A fourth round pick now could become a third round pick leading up to the draft. If that's the case, I'd take it. Or if someone offered a second next year, I'd jump at it.

yep I do this in a heartbeat.. you save millions and get rid of a headache + two picks. If we keep him the conditional 3rd is not till 2019 correct .... so dump him.

Please read my post, my point was that we have options. I didn't mean to pick out one solution above others, simply just to show its not doom or gloom.

Trade him now, trade him later, re sign on the cheap, let him go for a comp 3rd, I don't care.

I think if he had a bad year for some reason, he would absolutely be worth resigning at the pay rate of a depth player. If no one thinks he's worth a4th rounder currently, who's going to pay him after another down year? No one.

So if we offer him 2 or 3 years at 4 mill per, low to no guarantees, or roster bonus incentives with insurances against suspensions, that's a steal.

i did read your post mykcuz & i do realize you're just offering viable options..

but as you can tell, i'm absolutely done with richardson at this point.. anything that has him being a jet past '17 would be a huge disappointment/mistake in my eyes..

Yea I really don't care what happens to him either. In my mind he will never be a beloved jet. In any of the scenarios I mentioned, we don't really lose, Richardson does, and it's his own fault.

He might just be a poor kid turned millionaire who doesn't care about his talent or the nfl. His family is set for life and many players in today's nfl just don't give a damn. Most fans have more passion about football.

And yes, I would be ok re signing him as long as he was considered controllable or not a cancer. If he's worth a 4th now, and he has a disappointing year, his free agent value would be next to nothing. I would re sign him for 4 mill in that scenario workout blinking, because most d linemen in that price range are old with bad backs, he would be a depth player with starter talent.

Or he could go to the Patriots and win a super bowl mvp...

There is no guarantee we will get a third round compensatory for him. So many things could happen that might yield less than that (4th, 5th or even nothing). Perhaps we parlay him with a draft pick to get a higher one this year or maybe accept a better pick in 2018. However, if the best we could do is a 4th than let's do it. We're most likely gonna stink this year anyway so why not..

A higher 1? The only player worth going up to get in this scenario is Myles Garret and I don't think the Browns will take our #1 and Richardson for the 1st overall.. No pint in moving up if it ain't for that and certainly not worth giving up more to move up...I say trade him for a 4th this year and a conditional pick in 2018 that could be as high as a 2nd.

23 - when I said a higher one I didn't mean a higher first round pick. Just use the trading of Richardson to move up in the draft wherever (i.e., trade Richardson and a third rounder for a second rounder)..
