I dont like Chad Kelly--I absolutley LOVE this kid. Sure he's a hot head. But the resemblance that this young gun has is all BRETT FAVRE.
Strong arm...makes plays in an unconventional way and takes the bull by the horns approach.

If he's there in the 4rth, I wouldnt mind Mac taking a chance with him.

2015 he was a beast.
2016 he was well on his way to becoming a very high draft choice, but with an injury and a couple of bad off the field decisions dropped his stock.

If he's in the right situation surrounded by the right people to groom him, i feel he could be a steal.

(I like what Macagnan is doing. Keep drafting QBs until you get it right. Petty is in year 3-This is the year Bryce has to showcase SIGNIFICANT improvement. Hackenberg is Macs golden boy. He also MUST show something in year two... If these dont pan out, atleast he has Kelly to work with)

couple of things from the highlight reel.. the kids mobility was much more on display than his arm.. i don't remember seeing a rope until about the 5 minutes into the video..

didn't see kelly use his legs to actually buy time to throw the ball down the field.. all i saw was his ability to tuck & run for large chunks..

listen, the kid could walk right past me in the street tomorrow & I would have absolutely no idea who he is.. but this youtube video & the couple of bad off field decisions you mentioned gives me pause..

no way in hell petty, hackenberg & kelly could get enough snaps before the season starts to deside who we cut.. unless the plan is to carry 4 QBs 2 years running..

If we draft a QB this year I think it will signal what the Jets think about Petty.... If we didn't sign McCown I think it would say hey let these young guys wew like battle it out.... But with McCown I think it's say we don't see Petty being a starter or a competent back up

I think petty is viewed as a long term backup who had every opportunity to prove he's a starter. I think hack is viewed as a project starter. McCown is a tackling dummy/vet. I think petty is here to stay, hack makes it or not.

the only thing we know for sure about hackenberg is, we drafted him in the 2nd round & he didn't take a regular season snap his rookie season..

I wouldn't say Petty has had every opportunity to be a starter.. I think by necessity he got a small shot last year.. My personal belief is they Jets will run with Petty Hack to try and win the spot and McCown is insurance if they both aren't ready

Exactly. Not sure where anyone believes he had every opportunity? You are right in saying a small shot. Got to play with 2nd & 3rd stringers and run for his life in a very conservative game plan, season was over and players quit, then he got injured when RB fumbled the ball.
Petty deserves at least 8 games with the starters ; unless they truly believe he is a bum. We just haven't seen enough to judge him. All JET fans want is a flash in the pan guy and it probably isn't going to happen. Always the next guy is the one....
NOT saying he is T.A.! What were the cowboys first 2 years with Aikman? 1st year 1-15? but you saw something progressing, and that's all I want, realistically, to see this year. Of course I will take 19-0 :) The instant gratification generation. Don't be the SOJ's fans.

Early years look bad on paper. Two to three years before the stats turn. Great supporting cast through the draft.

JET fans would cut him too.

Kelly is worth a look in camp for some team but NY is brutal town for a young player coming in with a reputation. Maybe needs to go to a lower profile city for a few years. Practice squad player at this point. Quite possibly an undrafted player but likely someone will take a shot in the later rounds. We don't need to teach 3 guys how to work under center...

Weaknesses:
  • Huge character concerns
  • Lots of off-the-field issues
  • Prone to big mistakes in clutch, pressure situations
  • Short
  • Two torn ACLs
  • Inconsistent accuracy
  • Inconsistent field vision
  • Inconsistent decision-making
  • Will need to learn working under center
  • Transition from a college-style to pro-style offense

Yeah and let's not forget they drafted Aikman #1 overall and then proceeded to take Steve Walsh #1 Overall in the supplemental draft... Why? Because just because you draft one young QB doesn't mean you pass on an opportunity to take another one that could potentially be the franchise guy... Now it turned out Aikman was but the reality is JJ was doubling down and there is nothing wrong with that.

And neither Petty nor Hack were first round draft picks let alone #1 overall... So taking a QB again isn't an indictment of anything other than Mac is doubling down each time to get the right guy.
