Mo is in his prime, which means he has world class talent and can't put competitive back to back seasons together. After stinking last year, you better bet the jets will negotiate a salary cut if he has another underwhelming year. Even if he refuses, next year will be a contract year as he quickly approaches 30 and has zero accomplishments on his resume. He's not even the heart of the defense.
To me mo is the classic talented athlete who doesn't actually love the game. Just sucks a NJ kid couldn't be motivated to become a sports hero.
To me, if you can get a decent 3rd rounder for Richardson, you trade him. If not, he's worth keeping. Its just up to Bowles to motivate him to buy a second alarm clock and actually play his position.
If you can get a top 40 pick for mo, I might take it.
We don't need bums, and they both will be over 30 when we're next making any real playoff push. I'll take the young picks and really build the right way.

Mo broke his leg in the final game of the season, yes he had all off season to recover but was hampered in his return too quickly meaning he had to forfeit the normal progress to get into game shape with his team mates building that chemistry and continuity that was sorely lacking all last season... Mo might be just a defensive lineman but the linebackers seemed to be lost or slow on execution which starts from the d line that had its moments but if we had a full functional presence up front, that played with more consistency this front seven could of been flat out scary...
I mentioned at the beginning of the season that Mo didn't look right, like he was hesitant to put different weight distribution in his pass rush technique coming off that injury, yeah he was medically cleared but football is more mental than physical and he wasn't mentally right...
Expecting a player to be something they could be puts a lot of pressure for that player to succeed or reach those expectations... I hope Mo can return to at least 60% of what he was when we drafted him... Like you said he is reaching that pinnacle age of 30 and his career isn't over but it is nearing the end...
Wilkerson needs to be that run defender that sets the edge and is capable of collapsing the pocket on the off downs that Richardson/Thomas and/or Williams are not breaking the offensive containment to pressure the quarterback... We don't need a play maker from him but a heady player that will make the occasional splash play to help the team...
I expect a different player than last year, a full off season to build that chemistry while bridging the continuity that was missing last year will help Williams take the next step allowing Richardson or L. Thomas to step in and execute their responsibility without any hiccup to the defensive design in place...
The linebacker situation needs this stability up front so they can improve off what was a horrendous season both in run defense and pass coverage...
When it comes to Richardson on draft day the Jets will pair him with a pick to get a higher seeded selection... Possibly using our compensatory pick or (2018 mid rounder) to move back into the first round or an early second round pick...
