Malik Hooker, Charles Harris among Jets visitors

The Jets have enough holes on their roster heading into the draft that they could go a variety of ways when it is their turn to pick in the first round.

Their schedule of visits and workouts leading up to the draft has reflected that as they’ve spent time with quarterbacks, cornerbacks and offensive linemen among others. You can add Ohio State safety Malik Hooker and Missouri edge rusher Charles Harris to that list.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Hooker and Harris spent time with the Jets as the week came to an end. Hooker has been making the rounds with many of the teams picking at the top of the first round, which could leave him off the board by the time the Jets are up with the sixth pick.

Harris is generally projected to go a bit later in the proceedings, which could put him on the Jets’ radar if they trade down in order to increase the picks they can use to address as many of those needs as possible.

I'm ok with Hooker at 6 and a trade down and taking Harris.... Should be an interesting draft, for sure

I just can't make a case to take Hooker over OJ Howard?

Why does it seem insane to me for the team to select another defensive lineman with a high pick? Wilkerson, Richardson, Williams....

It's time to address other positions. Especially on offense.

Exactly my point. We've watched GM after GM for this franchise, one right after the other, do nothing about offense and then wonder why the offense sucks this bad and the team is 5-11? The OL was specifically neglected by Mac just last season. So he shouldn't wonder why the team sucks on his watch?

Anyway, if Mac opts to go defense in this draft and he ends up being fired? He shouldn't wonder why?

The only defensive player other than MGarrett (and he's not happening) that I would take over Howard at 6 is/might be Adams. Howard makes way too much sense for this team.

OJ Howard is a perfect pick for the Jets in so many ways, that I find myself failing to justify selecting someone else? I just hope he's there at 6?

Everyone said the same thing (MGarrett) about DL Williams a couple of years ago and look what happened!

It doesn't mean that a team wouldn't pass on the BPA. The Redskins passed on Leonard Williams at 5. Mac can't go BPA forever? At some point, move up or down in the draft to fill needs in good spots (in GOOD spots being the operative phrase), is what he must do. I think that year is now. Unless Howard is there at 6, I would be all in for trading down? The team just has so many needs right now. It's so bad that IMO there's NO way Mac will ever turn this team around by just drafting with a normal compliment of picks? Trades and FA are going to have to play into this big time.........

If Browns are as interested in Trubisky as I'm reading, they may be a potential trading partner for the #6 pick. If so, there are a couple of different scenarios:

#1 - the jets #6 (1600 pts) for Browns #12 (1200 pts) and #52 (380 pts); or
#2 - #6 for #12 (1200) , #65 (265) and #108 (78).

A potential 3rd option is to add Sheldon to the mix and pick up an additional 3rd. Either way we still get an potential impact guy at #12 and at least one starter. I think the quantity aspect is pretty appealing for us at this stage of team's rebuilding effort.

I have been saying it for a while now but I would prefer to trade down and acquire more picks.

Latest rumor regarding Richardson is that the Jets will trade him for whatever they can get during the draft. That'll net a 3rd-5th rounder. Hue Jackson really wants a QB, and you've gotta believe that if the Browns take Garrett, they'll want to move up for Trubisky if he's still there. Perfect scenario for the Jets. More high picks and a very good player still available at #12.

And it's not necessarily quantity over quality either? There's a lot of value IMO in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. It might be a bit more of a gamble than say taking OJ Howard at 6, but there's a potential pot of gold in that scenario. If Mac does it right, that could put this team way ahead of the rebuilding curve. Not just depth guys or guys that need a little development and eventually become starters? I mean guys that could start day 1 and be effective above average players, an immediate upgrade?

I think Kansas City is in play for a Richardson trade. They have 2 picks in round 5, Reid has taken on characters before and they need to shore up their defense. Pick 170 this year and a conditional in 2018? I say take it and pick up a future starting guard in round 5.

Agree, and something else to consider is that when we talk about starters it's typically the starting 22. I think you have to also consider how the influx of young talent across the board impacts special teams. Our STs have been real bad for the last several years, and the reason at least to a large degree is lack of talent.
