I'm assuming Garrett is a definite goner, so here are my TOP 5 for the Jets in order of preference:

Note: IMO Solomon Thomas is not a fit for the 3-4 and Bowles is not moving to a 4-3, ever, that much is certain.

1. OJ Howard, TE, Alabama
2. Malik Hooker, FS, Ohio State
3. Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
4. Jamal Adams, S, LSU
5. Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

I agree with this 100%

Was listening to a podcast this am, and the two guys were discussing our best fits for #6 pick. One guy says Hooker because he covers up for marginal CB play. It also allows Pryor to settle into a more natural role within 8 yards of LOS. So, his contention is that you get 2 for 1 with the Hooker pick. The 2nd guy says OJ Howard because he is a day one starter who excels in both phases of the offense. More importantly, is that it gives Hackenberg another legitimate big target as a safety blanket. The 2nd guy believes that Hack will be the guy eventually with this year as a real possibility. Interesting and rational arguments for taking each player.

I agree with both guys.... With that said I think Safety is deep in this draft as well as the right scheme will elevate the secondary play by having a true pass rush... So that's why I lean towards Howard... A TE can be great for a young QB.. Say waht you want about Sanchez but Dustin Keller was huge in his development and the coaches lack of understanding that and the lack of understanding the development of a QB doomed him.

it's funny, the closer we get to the draft, the more i'm warming up to taking howard or fournette..

i'm still of the belief the 6th pick in the draft is very high for a TE or RB but then:

both college fans & draft guys really like both kids going in the top 10..

it would be very exciting to get one of the two best offensive weapons in the draft..

& i agree with your take on keller & the coaching, as far as sanchez was concerned..

Never forget, I was the first guy to project Howard to the Jets in a mock draft when nobody else had him in the TOP 10, now damn near every draft guru on the internet has him in the TOP 10, but when I first did it, it looked like a reach. Not trying to toot my own horn, but ... beep beep. :)

hammer, we've been posting together for a long time & i've always respected your football knowledge of both the college & pro game.. honestly, you being so excited about howard (& fournette) at 6, legitimately help ease my fears about taking either..

All 5 unquestionably make sense for the Jets, and I think one of them will be the pick. I'd probably switch Fournette with Lattimore, though. Even though RB isn't a huge need, Fournette looks special. A top 3-4 back in the league in my eyes.

But my preference is still OJ Howard. He's exactly what our starting QB is going to need, whether it's McCown or Hackenberg. Morton is going to do backflips if we take this kid.

I like this group, with some reservations about Fournette. Several analysts have stated that his running style is not a good fit with our blocking scheme. Maybe Sack can chime in on this? I believe that he was an offensive lineman in college. Most importantly, I DON'T want Trubisky at number 6.

i know you asked sack but morton has just gone from being a position coach, to a OC.. how the hell would the analysts know what his blocking scheme will, or will not be??
