Possible upside to the two safety picks!!!

Allow me to be the voice of reason here and if any of you know me, you know I'm usually not a voice of reason with this team. I'm usually the Debbie downer here and I don't have a problem saying it but there might be some real positives here Jets faithful. These two safety picks show that TB and Mac are trying to build a Seattle and Arizona type secondary. These two safeties are very good at that, especially Adams.

If this is truly the case, then we have two great starters for years to come. They've made it known that Pryor is on the trading block now. So it's not like they going to keep him and these rookies. I'm sure Gilchrist won't be here much longer either. These two youngsters might start from game one and be our game changers for the next 10-15 years.

If so, how can anyone of is be mad at that? Pretty safe to assume they will trade Pryor and Richardson and if so, we'll get decent compensation for it. Yes our corners are trash but this whole rebuilding process will take some time. Only position we don't seem to have to worry about is dline.

We have some LBs but they are still learning and may develop into something decent. So we all have to be patient. I wanted offensive players this draft, just like I did the past 6 drafts but it just didn't happen. Seems defense you need the blue chippers more then offense because they are reacting to the offense. So they are always a step or two behind.

So I think we all need to relax and let this all play out this year. The next two to three years will be bad ones and we all need to know that. If they rebuild the right way, we will all be very happy in the end.

Still confused but if he complements Adams I'm good with it...two solid starters on back end and two leaders high character guys...get rid of the cancers

I Agree. I never would have rebuilt the safety position if I was the gm, but I get it. It plays into the strength of a Bowles secondary. If they couldn't rebuild cb in the first with lattimore being injured and untested, they did the next best thing.

High character, intense guys to protect the top of the d. Our biggest defensive problem last year was revis, and the deep td.

Our secondary should be much improved without a doubt. Clairborne, if healthy, will be a good corner. Marcus Williams and Justin Burris should be better too.

Jets was in need of 2 Safeties to play in games. The 2 we have at strong Safety & Free Safety are not cutting it. One to cover the RB/TE & our 2nd Safety to cover TE/WR helping CB. I'm fine with it . I always worry drafting CB's/Safeties early in first round because of the high risk above other positions. Every day they will face the best from last 7 years of College RB's/TE's with speed . Not like the level they faced once or twice a year. Now its every game. With Jets D front & if these 2 Safeties turn out to be good as their Drafted positions ,Jets will have a strong short game. Still Jets are weak on back end & QB Pressure, need of CB/LB for that

I can understand the confusion and even the sense of frustration some folks have expressed here. Drafting safeties in back to back rounds is highly unusual. But if we drafted a safety and a CB no one would be complaining. Next to the QB (and we still don't know what Hackenberg can do, maybe he is awful or maybe not), secondary was our most glaring need. Was anyone here happy with CP on the back-end? Adams was a stellar pick - one of the best in the draft by far. The Safety from Florida could be a really nice complement. Let's give this strategy a chance on the field to see what Bowles can do. When he was in Arizona, he ran a defense with three safeties, and they were the best defense in the league. Again, let's see what happens.

To be honest, I'm not thrilled about the pick either, but by all accounts, he's a good football player and good character guy, and we need a roster with those types of players, plain and simple. I am sure the Jets wanted to move up to get a CB, but couldn't do it. So they tried to complete the back-end of the secondary. IMHO, there's nothing wrong with that. Fix what you can fix based on who's on the Board.

Remember when people used to mock the idea of drafting two TEs because no one needs two TEs. Well, the Patriots turned that theory on its head. Remember when the Redskins got blasted for taking RGIII and Kirk Cousins in the same draft? How did that workout? Taking Cousins turned out to be a brilliant pick. So let's be a little patient and see how this plays out on the field.

I also think the Alabama WR pick was a very good pick. So let's avoid rushing to judgment until the draft is complete.

I would also disagree that Mac doesn't know what he's doing. He has made some very fine picks since he became the GM, and some outstanding trades. Two years ago, he won NFL Executive of the Year, and the Jets went 10-6. Now, people are sure that he sucks. I don't agree. This tandem is purging the roster and finally rebuilding. It had to be done. So let's give them some time to put their plan in place.

Continuity and patience matter in the league. Let's see what happens.

This team will be a complete shit show for the next 2-3 years at least. Unless these players develop a lot faster then what we think. With these two safeties, Williams, Lee, Wilkerson (I guess), maybe 3-4 other (24) and younger defensive players we have now, they might be on to something. Something good that is. The fruits may not show this year but in a year or two, we may see it come together. Now the offense seems it will be a even slower development but what can we do but just sit back in agony and hope for the best. Seems they will give Hack a true chance this year to see what he can do.

He better be on the field as the game one starter or I will be pissed. Like I've said on other post, either he has it or he doesn't. Same with every other player. If he hasn't learned enough yet to be ready to play by now, we have an issue. Especially on a team like this, they are as far from playoff ready as you can get, so it's not like he is going to mess anything up. Let the kid play and grow with the team. Learn from his mistakes and if he doesn't show anything this year, it might be time to go to the next guy or give him another year. Guess only time will tell. I just hope they draft oline men and skilled offensive players from this point on this draft.

If one of them was a FS, I'd feel a bit better about it. Problem is they are both SS. Adams was an excellent pick that surprisingly fell to the Jets. Still don't have a cover S. Teams killed the Jets' S's last year in the passing game. That is still a major issue. Jets still badly need a CB. There were good CB's still on the board. There were still very good RB's on the board. (understand the character issues with them) There were still good TE;'s on the board.

Only good I can see in it is they are both nice kids. BUT, they both play the same position. If they had traded the Adams pick for a mid first this year, and another first next year, Maye might have been a decent pick. Back to back SS is nuts with a team that has the needs the Jets do.
