The Jets selected wide receiver ArDarius Stewart with their first of two third-round picks, No. 79 overall by way of a trade with the Vikings.

The Green & White were slated to pick No. 70, but struck a trade with Minnesota to move down nine spots. They also acquired the Vikings’ fifth-round pick, No. 160 overall.

The 5’11” 204-pound Stewart led Alabama with 864 yards on 54 catches and eight touchdowns, earning first-team All-SEC honors. Of his 54 receptions, 30 of them went for either a first down or a touchdown.

In three years for the Crimson Tide, he racked up 129 catches for 1,713 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 13.4 yards per catch.

Ardarius Stewart's last highlights as an Alabama Crimson Tide!

gmf, Hi! Whats your take on this guy since I know you follow College waay more than I do.? BTW I was fine with Jets taking 2 Safeties, just a little worried taking them so high at 6. You know how I feel about that & CB. But this WR I'm interested to hear what you think about him.

Alabama-tough and plays the game like a grown man. Stewart is an extremely competitive target who has been a catch-and-run option as well as a deep ball threat, but he has the tools to become a solid starter who can be effective in all areas of the field. While Stewart could come in and compete for early kick return duties, some teams may view his run after the catch skills as his true value-added talent.

Comparison: Chris Hogan

Thanks gmf! What did you think of Roto & NFL teams scouting report on WR/TE? Thats very concerning to me that one gets knees injured a lot & out for back to back seasons. Also the TE nick named Lazy by team mates & his work ethics questioned by Scouting reports. Both of these are red flags to me as risky players to draft. High upside but injuries on one and low effort by another makes me wonder if GM even looks at these serious issues of Player he is Drafting.

40 yard dash: 4.49 sec
vertical jump: 34 inch
broad jump: 124 inch

Analysis: Alabama's passing offense ranked 87th in the country... He did what he could to help a freshman quarterback in Jalen Hurts, catching 54 passes for 864 yards and 8 scores and rushing for 68 yards on 8 carries. He started every game in the team's title run the previous year, making 63 grabs for 700 yards and 4 scores... After being graded as a potential second-round pick by the NFL Draft Advisory Committee,.. Stewart decided to declare for the draft to take care of his two children and the rest of his family...

“When I went to see him workout, his route running was a lot better than it showed on film because they only did certain things,” Bowles said. “He caught the ball well with his hands and he’s explosive with the ball in his hands. He’s tough, he brings a lot of attitude to the game and he plays it the right way. We really thought he could help us.”

Per Roto World Evan Silve.......New York Jets

1 (6). LSU S Jamal Adams
2 (39). Florida S Marcus Maye
3 (79). Alabama WR ArDarius Stewart
4 (141). California WR Chad Hansen
5 (150). Clemson TE Jordan Leggett
5 (181). West Georgia LB Dylan Donahue
6 (188). Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire
6 (197). Michigan CB Jeremy Clark
6 (204). Ole Miss CB Derrick Jones

Overview: Mildly promising sophomore OT Brandon Shell should be included in this haul after the Jets parted with their 2017 fourth-rounder (became Samaje Perine) to draft Shell in last year’s fifth round. Although the Jets were widely praised for the Adams pick, safeties affect fewer plays than almost any other position and are therefore rarely taken as early as Adams went. The Jets of course followed up with another safety in the second round. The Jets are not one safety away from competing, let alone two. Stewart and Hansen are solid players, but both have No. 3-receiver ceilings. Leggett’s nickname at Clemson was “Lazy Leggett.” Clark was Gang Green’s most intriguing late-rounder with Brandon Browner-like size and early-round grades from NFL scouts entering last season, only to tear his ACL in September. It should be noted that the Jets acquired the Cowboys’ 2018 fifth-round pick by sending Dallas No. 191, which the Cowboys promptly used on Louisiana Tech S Xavier Woods, whom I’d be willing to wager has a more productive career than Jets second-rounder Maye. The Jets are just throwing blind-folded darts at this point. They have no organizational direction.

Grade: D

Know whats odd? I said the same thing for years now. First about Idzik & now Mikey Mac! Dart Board Drafting folks! Of this Draft I commented on Drafting a TE nick named Lazy & a WR whos main focus is running & catching have torn his ACL's in back to back seasons. Hello? Hello Jets GM? Anyone home upstairs? I'm fine with the Safeties "IF" they can be an "Enforcer" over the middle making TE's & RB's flinch catching passes from getting laid out. But if not? Then we just blew this entire Draft like Jets did getting 2 Pryor's.

seriously, one of our critics in Walter Football actually gave our draft an (A) grade, but you find the one critic that continues to give our franchise another ridiculous awful grade to what back up what you have been saying... I don't know what to say to you anymore...

New York Jets: A Grade
Goals Entering the 2017 NFL Draft: The Jets happen to be in the worst shape of any team in the NFL. Like the 49ers and Browns, they are devoid of talent almost everywhere. However, they lack the cap space to do anything about it outside of the draft. With so many holes on the roster, the Jets need to trade down early and often to acquire as many rosterable players as possible.

2017 NFL Draft Accomplishments: The Jets had to move down early and often, as suggested, and that's exactly what they managed to do. General manager Mike Maccagnan did a masterful job of wheeling and dealing throughout the weekend, acquiring resources on numerous occasions. This was absolutely imperative, as Daniel Jeremiah echoed what I wrote in the goal mock prior to the draft: The Jets, at least prior to the draft, had the worst roster in the NFL.

Not only did the Jets move down many times, but they also picked up some talented players in the process. They began the weekend by selecting two talented safeties, and yes, they needed two. Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye will automatically improve one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. Meanwhle, three offensive weapons were added in ArDarius Stewart, Chad Hansen and Jordan Leggett. They were quality selections, especially Leggett, who was a steal in the fifth round.

I'm sure some will consider this a failure of a draft for the Jets because they didn't acquire a quarterback. However, that was never the plan. Charlie Campbell reported back in January that quarterback was not in play for the Jets because they liked how Christian Hackenberg was progressing behind the scenes. And even if Hackenberg sucks, the 2018 NFL Draft is loaded with better quarterbacks - check out the 2018 NFL Mock Draft for more - so the Jets can just wait to acquire Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen or Josh Allen.

The Jets had a terrific draft overall, as Maccagnan did what he could to upgrade the talent on the roster as many ways as possible. There's still a long way to go, but this was a nice start.

His contention that safeties affect relatively fewer plays shows that he has failed to update his thinking to the way the game is played today. Leggett's "Lazy" nickname came early in his career at Clemson when by his own admission, his effort and work ethic were inconsistent. Of course, he matured over his time there to the point where that description no longer applied - that's according to Swinney and Watson. I strongly believe that Leggett is going to be one of the steals of this draft and an impact player for the Jets. Just re-watch this clutch fantastic catch with time running down in the national championship game vs Alabama:

Got it Big fan! I gave our Jets a "C" grade. Reason for that was a couple things. Jets needed a Center & while I agree with Jets taking a Player ranked high and falls to them, I didnt agree with not addressing a Center. I said 2 years ago to Draft a Center so Mangold could teach him. Biggest issue is Center who calls out the Defenses across & helps QB's & rookie QB's know whats going on. Jets will find out how important Center is without Mangold helping our QB's. Center is the spear head of the Offense Line. 2nd thing is moving back in every round after . Instead moving back & taking Lazy & Mr ACL WR when we need Positions. No doubt Mikey Dart Board Drafts & so did Idzik . Cant keep going backwards & after first round Jets Draft is over the way the last 2 GMs draft.
