b/c of the acl injury his stock dropped... but he was projected as a mid to high 3rd round prospect... forget special teams if he can come back to form he can compete for a starting role... steal potential this pick...
Well they will have the 29th or later pick and the Jets will have the first so the 5th is basically a 6th.

Jets take CB Derrick Jones Ole Miss
STRENGTHS
Has explosive leaping ability. Posted monster numbers in vertical (41 inches) and broad jump (11 feet 8 inches) at pro day. Has played both cornerback and wide receiver. Uses length, ball skills and pattern recognition to his advantage. Displays some talent and ball production from trail position. Aggressive sprinter down the field in kick coverage makes him an early responder.
WEAKNESSES
Stringy, gangly frame. Posted just nine reps on bench press and will need to add muscle to hold up in the league. Takes the worst of it as a grab and drag tackler. Doesn't play with the instant trigger on the throw that is expected. Below average footwork for short area change of direction. Could be limited in scheme fit.

Jones' limited reps at cornerback may work in his favor as secondary coaches could see him as a moldable prospect they can try and develop from scratch. He's got the length and explosion traits that will appeal to teams looking for tall, press corners. However, his play strength must improve. Jones is unlikely to get drafted but could be an interesting project for a team looking to use him in a press-and-trail coverage.
not sure i agree. jourdan lewis is the better CB although clark is the more physical player.
hopefully he's more than a special teamer, but i never thought he was a great prospect watching him at michigan
he is a press cover corner, with his size and length he is something we need... he will contend for playing time and even starting role...
This is why I dislike the notion that a year's difference in drafts, is the equivalent of a round. I would very often look to trade those later picks for the next season, if that were the case.
I just think like this, if we are in need of some late round picks to make moves up next year now we have one more...
Agreed.
I can see making the deal on the other side if there is a guy you really, really want. But if I'm not absolutely in love with a guy on the board, and someone offers me a fifth next year for my sixth this year, or something similar, I take it every time.
per-Rotoworld had this to say about him. A solid college receiving tight end whose NFL transition is questionable, Leggett was a poor run blocker on tape and has zero special teams experience. He was allegedly nicknamed "Lazy Leggett" at Clemson for poor work habits. Reading this and more & being labeled Lazy by his team mates is concerning.

Sigh. A tantalizing prospect coming out of Ohio State, Smith has so far been limited to just 14 games in two seasons and has rarely taken the field at full strength. This is Smith's second ACL tear since arriving as a second-round pick in 2015. Thats a big flag imo! Cant stay on the field isnt going to help Jets if he is injured all the time.

The Jets had discussions with the Cowboys and Redskins during the draft but both teams balked at having to pay Richardson's fully guaranteed $8.1 million salary. If Jets cant get anything for him & he is unreasonable in a contract, I would bench him the entire season! 1 year on the bench hurts his value & he will be so very rusty along with his troublesome mouth & antics that no team will pay him much & he will have to earn any teams trust by proving himself all over again. So yeah this hurts the Jets, but it doesnt allow him to show case his talent this year to teams but the bad year is all they will see from him. Richardson mouth & locker room BS wants to screw Jets as to get little for him so why help him this year to do it? BENCH HIM!
