As usual I disagree. Macs drafts have not been flawless, but he has drafted well overall. He's a genius next to the idzik 12. He has picked guys who will be starters and depth guys for years to come.

First, I did not say mac sold woody on a competitive rebuild. I think woody was adamantly against a rebuild and mac had to appease him. Woody probably got his way and saw the failure of his method last season. I think mac made his case but said hey you're the boss I'll do what you want. Woodys way failed, and he humbled himself.

Second, I would say trading a5th round pick for the greatest jets offense in history and 10 wins, while keeping your draft picks intact, qualifies as a competitive rebuild. Consider rebuilding teams at 1 or 2 wins versus 10, and betting on the edge of playoffs. Making the playoffs while rebuilding without a franchise qb, would be unprecedented. I dont think you are being fair.

Last year was a failure. The fitz deal took too long. Decker and Marshall got hurt in buffalo, Decker never recovered. Revis sucked, mangold couldn't get on the field. The threat of marshal and Decker is what made the offense succeed, without that we were done. But we were a rebuilding team playing with house money. We still maintained our draft picks, w didn't mortgage our future for a win now team. Mac let the guys play and moved on.

Well said. That has been my thinking as well, particularly the part about Woody's part in all this.

Man, you just love to fight, don't you? Your "answer" has nothing to do with the point that I was addressing. I never said that they were/are good enough to be respected or that missing the playoffs is good enough for me to be satisfied. I addressed one specific point, which is the meaning of the term "competitive rebuild," and I pointed out that by definition, it means that a team remains COMPETITIVE while rebuilding; I don't know how anyone can say that a 10-6 team, which won 5 of their last 6 games coming down the stretch, including beating the Patriots, and had only one loss the entire season by more than a TD (vs. Raiders 34-20) was not competitive.

Was I satisfied with being competitive but missing the playoffs? Hell, no! But they were a competitive team in 2015.

I would think when you go the route of a competitive rebuild, the end result should be making the playoffs? This team never did and that is very disappointing. Mind you also, just because the Jets actually only beat ONE winning team throughout the 2015 season and they had an absolute cupcake schedule, that would NOT be my definition of the Jets actually being competitive.

Instead, here we are preparing for a total burn it down and rebuild from the ground type approach. Needless to say the end result of a "competitive rebuild" was never met.

I know you want to have something, anything to enjoy about the Jets during this dark time. So do I. I am just choosing to tell the truth. The truth is IMO, they did NOT complete any sort of competitive rebuild because the ultimate goal of ANY rebuild is to win the SB? All 2015 was is a little short term success playing other bottom feeding teams. It's not something I can be proud of. But to each his own I guess?

I think it's impossible to have a competitive rebuild.... you either need to rebuild or reload.... this is a dark time and I embrace it and look forward to see if we can completely rebuild.... Like i have said on other posts...Let the kids play, let the chips fall where the may and let's see who sinks and who swims and keep building accordingly...

I'm right there with you on that. Let the chips fall where they may. We don't have any choice but to do just that? Our differences start and end with you seeing things from the past as far different from me. Wake me up when I can start believing this team has a chance to do some real damage. Right now, they very clearly do not have any chance of doing damage. 2015 was just the same....

I don't see this team doing any damage this year.. But I do think players can improve from year to year . They all don't have to be impact starters immediately, as you pointed out in the other thread. . in your mind if they aren't impact players day 1 they will never be.... Peyton Manning was awful year 1.... Drew Brees didn't hit his stride till year 3 and really didn't take flight till he got to New Orleans after year 4 or 5.... hell look at Enunwa.. took him 3 years and he's still improving.... and I could go on.

I don't see the past different than you, i think you got what I am trying to say skewed..... We have been a muddling middle to bottom team for a long time with a couple of flash in the pan years... I want sustainable success.... Rebuild, rip it all apart.. I wanted no part of McCown or any veteran QB for the reason alone... Screw a guy that might be able to keep us in the muddling middle at best... I am ok with 1-15 if that's the case this year... I want to see the young guys improve... You want wins now, at least that's what I am gathering, you don't have the patience for a guy like Enunwa to develop like he has... But the reality is we have guys like Jenkins, Shell, Burris, Roberts, Lee, Anderson, Peake, and possibly even Petty and Hack that all can show improvement and building towards that as well as what I think is a great draft class this year with guys like Leggett and Donahue that in year 3 might be very good to great players.. I think with the talent this team has, talent doesn't win games, in its youth with the right young QB starting 2019 we will start doing damage.... I'll wake you then.
