Every year, ESPN analyst Jon Gruden films a segment with the top quarterback prospects in the NFL Draft called quarterback camp. He has a discussion with each prospect, does some chalkboard work, and takes them onto the field. I wanted to share this year's segment with Christian Hackenberg, the new quarterback in town.

The "Good Morning Football" crew talks about why the Jets need to give QB Christian Hackenberg a chance to start.

He's young, but he's smart. Leaving him on the bench was a good idea, I think. Gives him a chance to settle in, get used to the level he's at now. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start this year. Man, I hope so...

If Hack turns into the Jets franchise QB then any and all stupid picks Mac has done will be forgiven.

Yup, thanks. I have a Samsung galaxy, and often apple products don't work for me.

Certainly gives you hope about this kid and the team going forward if he can be the guy. Seemingly has it all, and in retrospect his red-shirt year was probably a good thing.

The kid has always had the tools. I just think that OL sped his clock up, and the style of offense didn't fit him for two years. They even changed what wasn't broken. I'm a huge psu guy, and love how far they have come, but they need a scrabbler type qb like mcsorley. Hack fit in o'briens pro offense, not franklins college trickery. Hack has a chance! Give it to him!

Still funny to hear Brandt talk sports. I remember my fiancee and mother watching him on soap operas

Video means nothing. Anyone can practice that. But adding Players across looking to tear your head off coming full speed shows what kind of QB you really are in decisions. Decisions audibling TE/RB to pick up a Block knowing open WR's & seeing them open under pressure quickly getting rid of the ball while being accurate under pressure for tight coverage. All those was why Hackenburg failed in College the last years. I put little to none in value in that type of practice & combine over what the Player actually did in games.

if you watched him in any games you would not be so critical... statistics means nothing when you go from one system that fits you to another that has you running for your life... giving him the benefit of the doubt that he can rebound from those two horrid years with the right talent surrounding him...

sometimes gastineau you pretend to know what you are talking about but in this instance you are totally off basis in your statement... don't take this personal but I watched him all three years and saw what a difference from O'Brien to Franklin really did to this kid... all in all, he did not just quit he battled with his team mates even tho they had no business being on the field the way they performed on every down... all Hack's weapons (skill players) after his freshman year were well less than worthy to be on the same field as him, put this way H-Back Kyle Carter is the only player after Hack's freshman year attempting a job at this level... Yes one offensive lineman also working at this level (Urshel), but it shows that the talent was less than what is needed for a big ten team...

Way off base man. This statement stores you know nothing about hack.

Hee was as good as anyone his freshman year, in a pro offense. His team sucked, his o line sucked. He'd call protections and guys would both blow assignments. It was like putting a qb behind a little league line and playing the 2000 ravens defense, then blaming the qb.

Gruden gave him every opportunity to explain his sacks, he refused to throw his teammates under the bus.

The fact is, he has the tools, he has the brains, cab the damage be undone?

That is my only concern. Some guys get shell-shocked because they are hit so hard and so often - see David Carr. Hack was not only a bad fit for Franklin's offense, but he also had his decent mechanics undone by Franklin's coaching staff. I just hope hope that a year to sit, watch and learn helped undo the Franklin experience.

has this "franklin" person ever been asks why he seemed so hell bent on almost literally doing any & everything possible to screw up one of the most promising true freshman QBs in the country??

the unmitigated gall of this guy!!

Franklin had his own style and it was on the opposite end of the spectrum to what Hackenberg was, should of Hack transferred possibly but he stuck it out and unfortunately it didn't pay out for him or did it? He sat out all last season to witness what he needs to accomplish to have a chance at this level... Will he be the guy, maybe but to put him down on his play of two poor years is ridiculous especially since there was a glaring issue with the hog mollies up front, not able to block a nosebleed...

Exactly, that's like asking Rex to be an offensive minded coach. Everyone has a style. He has done a good job there as a coach, but hack didn't fit the system.

you're making it sound like franklin inherited a 5th year JAG, instead of a kid some were saying maybe the 1st pick in the draft after what he accomplished in a sophisticated pro style offense under o'brien..

if you don't think he did the kid a tremendous disservice, there's really nothing left for me to add..
