Youth movement?

What are the chances the Jets play the youngest overall rosters of players this year? From the looks of it, their probably in the running for the youngest overall team period this year. Will they actually average the age of let's say 25 years old of a starting rosters this year?

Looks like the starting WRs besides Decker will be 24 or younger. Starting TE will be 24 or younger. Safeties will be both rookies it seems. Corners will probably average 25-26. The oline might have alittle age to it. Dline looks like they'll be about 26 average age. LBs besides Harris will all be young. RB will start out with Forte but by the end of the year will probably be the rookie. Biggest ? is the QB, will it be the old fucker Mccown or the youngster Hack? Petty is only 25 or 26, so will it be him?

It appears the youth movement is definitely in effect regardless and I love it. Question is will they go with a totally young rosters majority of the time on the field? Especially at the most important positions or will they play it safe or SCARED rather and still play the vets and not let a young team grow and learn together on and off the field?

Quite frankly, I could honestly care less how young the roster is. I'm more interested in knowing if these kids can play football? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.

If you're going to have some age on the team, the best place is offensive line. It takes several years for a line to gel together and the more game experience you have in those players the easier it is for them to fit in and feel comfortable with their roles in the unit.

OK, if you want to argue the Jets have the worst roster in football, you can make the case. But there is no way in hell you can make the argument the Jets have the worst young core in the NFL. And you sure as hell can't do it when you forget to include LEONARD WILLIAMS in the young core!

I'm not sure worst. Decent at WR and OL - not necessarily good, but decent, at those positions.

Either way, no way in hell Jets have the worst young core in the league - unless you conveniently forget about guys like Leonard Williams.

they did.. but all they did was lump him in with the rest of our young talent.. they still lose all credibility (as far as the jets are concerned) by conveniently/apparently forgetting williams is a jet..

I believe the young players (25) and younger will prove this year to be very promising for our future. Williams is a given of course. Richardson may even (MAY EVEN) step his game up. Adams and Maye I believe will shine. That might spark Pryor to play better, if he's still on the team. Lee, Jenkins and Mauldin will improve. Burris and atleast one (if not both) of those drafted CBs this year will step up. Rookie TE, RB and atleast one WR will show some spark. Not to mention Enunwa and both drafted WRs from last year. Question will be the oline and especially QB. Will Hack show up? And if he doesn't, will Petty show up?

The only unknown here is the agreement Mac and Bowles (either together or exclusive) may or may not have with Woody regarding them being given a hall pass for this season. This is important because it will determine whether McCown starts or is strictly in a backup/mentor role. If Bowles doesn't have that pass he will start McCown and stay with him until ordered otherwise. Bowles did seem somewhat surprised that Harris got released yesterday so you wonder if he's on the same page as Mac.. BTW - if this is the big tank - I applaud it...

This is absolutely the correct direction, the only question is whether MM and TB is the right team to lead the way. I really believe that MM is a guy to build this team through the draft and UDFA route, TB I'm not so sure. Regardless, all of the personnel moves made up to now did nothing but improve the defense and STs. Revis and Harris were no longer foundation pieces, and Gilchrist was an injured high priced guy who didn't play all that well prior to the injury. We got younger and more athletic at ILB, younger and much more talented at S with Adams and Maye. Claiborne (when healthy) is much better than Revis was last year. I expect an improvement in the defense this year, at least in the 2nd half of the season. With the influx of young, hungry players, I expect a corresponding uptick in STs play as well. If so, we will be competitive and entertaining from the perspective of interesting to watch from a developmental standpoint. There was nothing worse in my opinion than what we had to watch last year - a group of established, aging, over-priced veterans (and some young players too) who lost interest in playing. It was clear from what we heard about the draft class's underlying quality - tough, team leaders, alphas, that there was a serious leadership void. If so, why keep the vets around? Gone are guys who couldn't lead by example any more, or in Pryor's case, never would. I welcome watching how the young guys develop, the passionate effort, and the prospect that some of these guys will be the next foundation. I'd rather watch the 2017 product than the 2016 one any day.

Wow, when I started this thread I knew as we all did that the youth movement was in effect. However; the Jets are going full throttle with this and I love it. I did not think they would get rid of Harris and Decker. Do they have any players over 30 years old besides Forte and Mccown?

They might as well get rid of them as well. Everybody and their mother knows Mccown is going to nothing to help this team. Everybody and mother also knows this team will win no more then 4-5 games, and that's only if the oline and QB (whomever that is) plays fairly decent.

So what's the point of Mccown being on this team? Cut him and sign someone like Kaepernick to be our vet QB. Then again, if they did that then Hack and Petty wouldn't play and isn't that what this all primarily about, seeing if Hack or Petty can lead this team? Or do they draft a QB next year?

That would have happened with Mccown, so what's the difference? Jets might have a better case at a slightly better season with Hack or Petty. Slightly better meaning from 1-3 wins to 4-6 wins, lol.
