Youth movement?

Wow, when I started this thread I knew as we all did that the youth movement was in effect. However; the Jets are going full throttle with this and I love it. I did not think they would get rid of Harris and Decker. Do they have any players over 30 years old besides Forte and Mccown?

They might as well get rid of them as well. Everybody and their mother knows Mccown is going to nothing to help this team. Everybody and mother also knows this team will win no more then 4-5 games, and that's only if the oline and QB (whomever that is) plays fairly decent.

So what's the point of Mccown being on this team? Cut him and sign someone like Kaepernick to be our vet QB. Then again, if they did that then Hack and Petty wouldn't play and isn't that what this all primarily about, seeing if Hack or Petty can lead this team? Or do they draft a QB next year?

4-5 games is an extremely optimistic viewpoint. I think most speaking objectively would predict 1-2 wins given how bad this roster is and how bad the coaching is?

If the oline and QB play is half way decent then, 4-5 games is possible. I believe these young players at every other position will hold their own. Question is, will the oline and QB do their part. 4-5 wins is very possible if the QB and oline plays half way decent. If they play better then that, then 6-8 games is possible but I seriously seriously seriously doubt that.

Got rid of old and un healthy players, suck for Sam is A ok with me. Its when you're all out trying to win and you're at the bottom of the league that bothers me.

Tanking a season is just a reality of today's NFL, you can't afford to keep great veterans together. Young talented guys are your core, that means high draft picks still under your control.

Exactly why I am predicting 1-2 wins. OL and QB are the two most horrid positions on this team talent wise. A whole lot of nothing. So how you saying IF the OL and the QB plays well as if there's a chance? Not likely. Josh McCown right now is the very best QB on this roster and he has a 1-10 record over the last two seasons. That's not exactly optimism inspiring...........

I'm perfectly fine with tanking with the strategy of building a young team through the draft, finding your franchise QB and then have ample cap money (due to the young roster) to fill in the gaps. If that's what we're doing I'm all in. Don't understand why writers who report on the Jets think the fan base is not OK with this. I completely understand the folks that have paid good money for this upcoming season knowing it could/probably will be a 2-14 year. Tough to watch. However, we need to stop doing the same thing that has gotten us nowhere. Our number one goal is a franchise QB and if tanking a season or two is what's needed to get that accomplished than let's do it.

That would have happened with Mccown, so what's the difference? Jets might have a better case at a slightly better season with Hack or Petty. Slightly better meaning from 1-3 wins to 4-6 wins, lol.

The difference is, as much as I want to tank this season I have high hopes for future ones. Getting one of the younger guy snaps helps clarify he future.

We can label 2017 as the SHOW ME season. No more potential, no more red shirts. It's time to see what we got and what we ain't got. Having Decker around to take targets away from Enumwa and the others doesn't help the long term goal. We may find out that we have a very solid core of receivers but are missing a #1. Fine.

We may find out the OL needs another complete overhaul. Or we may find out we're set on the right side. Fine.

We may find out Burris is a solid #1b corner and Williams is a good nickel corner. Or we may have struck gold with Clark or Jones. Fine. Or we may find they all need to be replaced. That's fine too.

We may find out we have the best pair of safeties in the league. Guys who make the entire secondary better. Fine.

We may find out that the remaining stars are still irresponsible and unaccountable selfish players. Fine.

We may find that Bowles himself has grown and is willing to bench (for entire games, not 1-2 series!) the selfish ones. Fine.

Mac has cleared out the John 'I Drafted Quincy Enunwa!' Idzik garbage and is starting over as he should have done 1-2 years ago. Now it's time for whomever is left to Show Me. Mac needs to know what his core is and he will after this year. And with the #1 or #2 draft pick and $90mm in cap space, the remaining holes can be filled.

I with you 100% here, so maybe we're misunderstanding each other. I started this thread, so obviously I want Hack to start from game one and play the entire season. Win or lose!!! We have to see what we have in this kid and they need to know, whether they need to draft a QB next year or not.

Only Hack can answer that question and only he can answer it on the field. Not practice or training camp but during real play time during real games. Funny story I did not know until I watched some football show on NFL network. Tom Brady did play in his first season but played like he had never touched a football in his life.

It was only a few snaps because of injury I'm guessing to Bledsoe but he did play. The next year when Mo Lewis officially knocked Bledsoe out, Brady came in and we all know the end story. Point being is they have to let this kid see some time on the field and let the results be what it is.

Who really knows what this kid is capable of until we see it? Which brings me to my past response to your past post, Mccown is so horrible that Petty and Hack might be better then him anyway. Mccown has played for ten teams and he is 37 years old. That's worse the Fitzgarbage.

So although this may not be such a great season with Hack or Petty playing, it would be no worse then Mccown playing. So what is the difference? If Hack and Petty truly sucks, then the Jets will still lose 14-16 games anyway and we'll still get the #1 pick in the draft. Mccown wins this job then we have a real problem with the other two QBs. If TB starts Mccown regardless of who outplays who, then TB should get fired right then and there.

i agree..

bowles starting mccown under these circumstances would be blatantly self serving.. period.. so much so, no explanation to that move should save his job at that point..

Unless he also has a deal with Woody and if he does we are in bigger trouble. Hoping Woody buys into the tank for the prospects of long term success.

if johnson believes his season ticket holders/fan base wants to see mccown take even one regular season snap, what can i tell you?? aside from him suffering from the early signs of dementia??

The key is TB... if this team comes together - jells - and the play hard, competitive but lose and in doing so get better each week then he will have grown as a HC IMHO. However, to say I am dubious about what I just posted is an understatement. Frankly, I have very little confidence in him as a HC...my hope is that the new coaching staff he has hired will offset his shortcomings.... we shall see.
