So much negativity on this year's team, But here's my take...

Outside the newly hired teacher(s) - coaching staff, there should be optimism for the youth movement on this team... Do we have a roster filled with pro bowl player(s), maybe... But we do have tons of potential and with ex-player(s) whom are on the coaching staff there should be more optimism for success... Media loves to drive the negativity and so many fans buy into it... The two driving forces of negativity and division on whether this team will ever be good is led by Manish Mehta and Rich Cimini both are anti-Jets beat reporters, yet again all they do is sucker fans in to their delusional reporting... Maybe Todd Bowles isn't the right fit, or maybe he is handcuffed more than we are be led to witness... Being surprised in a press conference about a roster move shows there is more disconnect in the front office to the coaching staff than there should be...

The real truth is this roster has loads of potential and there is plenty of time to get these players on the same page to be competitive not only this season while building for the future... Drafting two safeties was shocking, yes but look who is the head coach a former safety... Will this help our secondary, most definitely... Our problem was in coverage last year and now it looks like this back end has the talent to not only playing up in the box but over the top... Our corner position is not a position of strength but at the same time it is not a position of weakness neither...

Our defensive line is so stacked, it wouldn't be surprising if they sell one or two players via trade before season start... Even if they got rid of two they still would have a deep talent base of five strong to utilize throughout the season... One suspect position group is the linebacker position but this is the bridge between the secondary and defensive line, so getting an average out put would be more than suffice to have a successful defensive out put this year.... Not singling any specific player out but the chemistry from each group will only get stronger with more snaps played together...

Like the defense the interesting aspect should be the special teams execution... Can Lachan Edwards improve on a shaky rookie season? Who will be our kicker, can Ross Martin with the big accurate leg from Duke finally prove himself a capable option or with free agent signing Catanzaro take this job with ease? Who will be the return specialist? There seem to be plenty of contenders, so will they platoon this position with all the capable options? A lot of questions but this is nothing new...

Yes leaving the offense for last but not the worst as many say it will be... Yes, the Jets signed McCown as an insurance policy, but already Cimini has proclaimed him the starter and that is far from reality... The Jets are giving both Hackenberg and Petty every chance to earn the job, and right now neither has given up on earning it... Yes there are some bumps and bruises but all we hear from those trash reporters is how bad either/or of them look... Never read anything on how good they are doing... Like a few here I watched Petty at Baylor and believed not only with his huge arm, he has the intangibles to be a solid starter... Like Petty, Hackenberg has more "it" factor to be that franchise type QB... Developing either of them while allowing the other to play is paramount moving forward... McCown should only be the backup to whomever is anointed starter and in case of an injury should he see playing time for that game alone... Allowing the other young one a full week of practice for the following game to be ready... Like most I think Hack has potential but may need another year (at least half of a season) to develop further... Roll with Petty won't be the end of the world...

We arguably have the best versatile back field in the league... Matt Forte is still a viable option but Bilal Powell deserves more... What I mean Powell should be the lead back, like Forte said he is happy with this new scheme which will allow him to be on the field more on passing downs (3rd down), hope this doesn't mean they will keep him on the field for 30 straight plays... Put Bilal on the field on first and second downs then bring Forte on third down would be so much better for this offense regardless who is under center... With the rookie this year, McGuire looks to also be a part of that strong duo, giving us an ultimate trio to keep the defenses guessing...

One position that has been missing for years, now becomes one of the strongest parts of this team in the tight end position... Austin S. Jenkins leads the way but the potential with our draft selection this year in Leggett and other potential like Brian Parker will provide another group of receivers that will help any signal caller whomever that is... This is one position that could seen being having an additional player maybe like blocker Eric Tomlinson even Jason Vander Laan would complete this roster group... We were led to believe that we would be adding a full back to this roster this year but right now there is only one and just because we are in need doesn't mean it has to be a full back, but one of those two blocking tight ends could do the same...

The under-rated position is our receiver position but there is some proven talent with Quincy Enunwa, last year rookies in Robby Anderson and Charone Peake... The new additions of Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart we should be eager to see the production they can accomplish... Again regardless of who is under center these guys are suppose to make things happen and as aggressive attacking the passes while running crisp routes and being the strength rather than the weakness like last year...

Finally the offensive line, some say is average at best which is the farthest from the truth... Last year they showed some promise especially in the run blocking game, with more of a zone blocking scheme in a west coast offense should allow the pass blocking scheme give any signal caller a few additional seconds to find the open target or dump it off the security option of Bilal Powell or Matt Forte... Our o-line has enough talent to continue the growth with some depth that can provide additional support moving forward... Some are questioning why they didn't invest a draft pick or three into this line but in reality they aren't as bad as some other units in the league... Expect next year the Jets will use some of the newly gained cap space to sign maybe one or two new pieces under the age of 25/26 to continue building this line...

So unlike the social media verse, I don't feel this team is the worst kept secret in the national football league but an aspiring group of talent with loads of potential that will grow together moving forward... Will they win 12 games probably not, but don't be surprised if they go 9-7 or 8-8 because the talent is the there and there are teachers for coaches whom were former player(s) in this league and will drive these young ones to play beyond their current potential and because of that this will be an interesting season... Even if they don't bring it all together, watch the improvement of each position compared to last season and even the year before... I know I will get scrutinized but someone has to stay optimistic and I guess I am that person...

But what are Cimini and Manish supposed to think? We cut Decker, Marshall, Harris, Mangold, among others...and we are left with a young and unproven roster. Yes, those reporters can be extremely outlandish however their doom and gloom seems pretty legit this year..

Also, our WR core is in no way proven. No one, except Enunwa has proven anything on the WR core. I agree our TEs have promise. I like Forte and Powell but forte is aging, and I do not think our OL is very good at all. Question marks all around. EvenWinters who was a rock last year is coming off surgery.

Like you ssaid our LB stink and I also think our corners stink, so that's a big chunk of our defense that will be getting hosed left and right this year. I am a 11 year season ticket holder and as die hard as they come but I cannot see any more than 3 wins this year.

they were anti jets way before this off season took place... both Manish and Cimini... as I stated never mentioned on where I think our linebackers are, for me the jury is still out... last year between injuries and the merry go round at outside linebacker the production was uneven... also never said we have a proven receiving core, said three could be considered viable options with the two draft selections this year show enough promise not to be the doom n gloom the media makes them out to be...

as for season ticket holder, been one for over two decades... tho because of work I pass them off to family members... with Forte aging limiting him to the role they gave Powell last year should be his this year to maximize his ability rather desecrate it...

if you read I state the offensive line is NOT as bad as they say, last year they weren't the best of units but injuries destroyed any continuity they could of or should of had... just looking how well that right side turned into late in the season how our running game started to flourish a little too late but was encouraging signs moving forward, mainly Shell, Winters and Qvale (RG)...

Marshall asked to be cut... Harris and Decker didn't want to take a pay cut... While Mangold was simply in a decline, over the last few years racking up the injury bug and was smart to move on from him...

you say 3 wins, Cimini and Mehta dont even give the team a chance to win 1...

but it is TOO EARLY to start the prediction on the season until we get a better look at them in training camp.. Right now more than anything is getting them into conditioning programs to get them ready for the real off season workouts, heading into preseason...

8-9 games is a REAL stretch but I can see 5-6, if the QB and oline play is fairly decent. Better then fairly decent and ofcourse the chances of the wins goes up but I doubt that seriously. Hack should be the only QB playing this year, PERIOD and that's just to see what he has and do they need to draft another QB next year!!! If he plays fairly decent, then that top 5-10 pick can go to a olinemen or a RB or whatever is needed. I see the rest of this roster as having real talent and potential but the QB and oline is the real issue here. Decent play from those two positions and the Jets can win 5-6, maybe even 7 games (BIG MAYBE.) Horrible play from them and this team will win 0-2 games and #1 draft pick and QB here we come.

I agree it starts up front we get decent play from the offensive line then we attack with a run first mentality, play action in a spread-west coast scheme... short to intermediate routes allowing Q., Stewart and Hansen to make moves after the catch, not to mention more physical play from our tight end play we could be better than projected...

Not to mention if our defense is anything better than we had in the secondary last year, force turnovers where we put our offense in scoring position... So many things could go right not just wrong... The right kick blocks can allow Powell or Wilds/McGuire to break one for large chunks and they are capable of doing that we have witnessed those types a runs... Really don't care for receiver end around runs but whatever to get them going...

Unlike the last couple years I expect Morton will get these players going meaning momentum... That was one of those drive killers we witnessed with Gailey...

Again as for projections on win total, not there yet... I am not willing to suggest or predict it just yet... I said if things start clicking they COULD win 8 or 9 because of the opponents on the schedule... Would need a miracle from this point to envision 12 wins...

Man what a gift from above it would be to win 8-9 games. That truly means we have our future franchise QB and a very good oline at that. Boy that would be great and I am hopeful, very hopeful but realistic at the same time. Not to say that your not but for this team to win 8-9 games, that means the QB and oline played a lot better then fairly decent. They truly held their own and I just can't see it being that good, lol!!! Hope your right and I'm wrong, J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!!!

I would take a 2-14 season with a sweep of the Patriots and competitive in all games.

this season is about finding out if we believe one or both of our two young QBs can be 10+ year starters here, or not..

because obviously, we would need to take a dramatically different approach in the '18 draft based on that..

First Jets are not tanking season as ESPN is crying about. Jets are in full blown rebuilding mode! Jets are cutting Players that are not playing well & cutting Players not playing up to their contracts . Decker always hurt, Harris/Revis was over paid contracts & Mangold play has slipped over last 2 seasons & Jets didnt draft a replacement to learn from Mangold. BS on Jets for that. So only Marshall is the only one Jets let go & it was the right thing to do for him. Marshall played hard & wants to win a championship at this stage of career. Unfair for Jets to keep him during a rebuilding this team. I agree with what Jets are doing so far & stop throwing money everywhere to be a 4 win team. Biggest concern is Richardson & what to do with him. Richardson After finding out Jets were looking to trade him to Dallas, has hurt his his trade value so bad that Jets cant get much from him now. Screwed Jets big time by doing that & I think Richardson did this last year with his Agent talking to Dallas to try & make Richardson a great deal trading little to get him. So I would tell Richardson to sign a deal NOW. If not? I bench Richardson all season. Reason for this? This only gives other teams video of 2016 where he stood around & made little effort -playing all season. So 2016 pathetic playing with no effort along with adding to not playing this year makes Richardson a high risk & he would have to start over proving himself & take a lot less pay. Jets cant allow Rookies & agents see Richardson get away with that or Jets will lose on ALL trade value with Rookies thinking they just have to not try for a season lowering their trade value to help another team to get them. BENCH RICHARDSON ALL SEASON! Unless he signs contract before season. Richardson should not be rewarded scamming Jets by helping hurt his trade value to help Team that wants him like Cowboys. Richardson WILL BE A BEAST AT HIS BEST THIS SEASON because he knows this is a MONEY year on Contract. Thats why he signs now or benched all season. Dont allow Richardson to do this Jets!

Marshall asked to be released...

As for Richardson, it is in Richardson's best interest to shut his mouth and just perform... After this season he will be able to sign with which ever team pays him the most, while doing so the Jets will then reap the rewards or whatever in pick compensation for him... They won't be playing him at linebacker so in his own self preservation for future dollars he will be better than he has been...

he's given us absolutely no signs of maturing..

actually, he's given us the polar opposite since the beginning of OTAs..

Of course there's potential, that goes without saying, but what the media is writing about this team right now? Is 100% true. John Idk Idzik put this team seriously behind the 8 ball. That's a fact. Anyone who says otherwise is just refusing to acknowledge the truth. This team may also very well have the worst roster in a decade.

Right NOW? This team sucks.

gmf I admire your positive thinking about many Drafted Players & I always hope they turn out. But Jets are in a major rebuild & its not a gradual rebuild either. Today its reported that Jets are considering cutting Forte & Hackenburg & moving on. So far Ive agreed with everything Jets has done in cleaning up this team for next years major upgrade of our Jets. So this years winning 4 games is very unlikely. While not tanking ,Jets also dont have many pieces to win this year. For sure you cant count on Rookies to become superstars while learning Jets NFL new system playbook & usually its the 2nd year when everything clicks. New exciting Offensive Coordinator thats going to try a new style but dont have a QB-WR's or dual RB's to be the Offense he is wanting. Defensive hiring Green I hope is a shot in the arm to the less motivated Defense like Richardson & Wilkerson who stood around all last season. But still our CB's are not a threat to stop anyone passing against us. Jets are a 2 win team if that, but should Jets win 3-4 Ill take that also. Wins dont matter to me this year knowing Jets are planning a future & not scabbing together a 8 win team. So if being negative because Im happy JETS are in total rebuilding cutting the trash to be a future contender...well I guess I'm that & more and I will side with Jets management all the way on this being done! GO JETS GO!!!

I would love the link to Jetts considering cutting Forte & Hackenberg...

as for Wilkerson I said from preseason they were pushing him to quick to get back onto the field and he wasn't ready boy I wish I was wrong on that one but because he may of been physically ready, mentally he was uneasy -- more instinctively not to put pressure down on his repaired leg... one year removed he looks to be fired up and ready to do what he wasn't able to do last season...

as for Richardson it is in his best interest to shut up and perform, the question is will he? regardless of what happens after this season is more than likely gone into free agency...

we all know this is the first stage of a full rebuild mode, but unlike the media there is talent on this team and there is plenty of potential...
