2017 - Hope IS A Strategy

We all know there will not be many wins in 2017. It will be all about the effort, not the record. The best case scenarios are the following;
  • Jamal Adams becomes the glue this defense has needed for many years. He makes everyone on the defense better, including the linebackers, corners and even the d-line. Even more importantly, he becomes the coach on the field. We need one!
  • Marcus Maye breaks the second round curse and becomes the Carl Banks/behind the scenes solid player.
  • Wilkerson is finally healthy and returns to form. And he has a major attitude adjustment (for the better).
  • Jenkins and Mauldin take a step forward and learn how to pick up the scraps left behind by the D-line.
  • Claiborne stays healthy for most of the season and shows how much a shut-down corner improves the whole defense.
  • We find out if we have our QB of the future on the roster.
  • Q steps it up and becomes a legitimate #1a receiver.
  • Stewart, Hansen and Donohue all contribute.
  • The offensive line finds it's RT, RG and LG for the next few years and only need to find a long-term LT and C.
  • Todd Bowles needs to be a leader.
If 7 of the 10 actually happens it will be a step forward. Hope is all we have.

Hope is NOT a strategy and hope is not being used as a strategy in this case either.

Mac's strategy is the following:

1) Mac stripped this roster in an effort to get guys making the minimum amount that the coach can mold into what the coach wants. They're young and impressionable, so they'll be suckers for believing in what Toilet is selling whether it's flawed or not.

2) Another virtue of firing every decent veteran player is banking cap space. Before you know it, you accumulate a war chest to essentially buy a team if need be, Dan Snyder style.

3) TANKING the season basically insures you get a top 5 pick, if not 1, and an opportunity at a top young QB. Mac knows the importance of a QB in a QB driven league.

So hope is not, nor will it ever be a strategy.

Now, the fans because they have no say on what the team does, can have hope? Hope that the front office actually has a clue and knows WTF they're actually doing...

My take on your bullets is the following:

Jamal Adams IS a leader. Fans need not worry. So much talk has been made of this in the NY media that there must be some truth to it. Just like so many women accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault that there must be some truth to it.

Maye will pop from having a positive influence and cerebral player like Adams backing him up.

Wilk will improve. He never had enough time to get back from a broken leg. He's good now.

Jnkins and Mauldin are both garbage. Forget about them, they are a lost cause. Bad picks by Mac.

Claiborne will last about 3 games, but he'll play great while he's in there.

Hack and Petty both suck and Mac knows it. Hence the reason he's tanking the season so he can get Darnold next April.

Enunwa is an excellent receiver, but I don't believe he'll ever be a true number 1.

Stewart and Hansen will become integral parts of the offense. Donahue will be a role player, but all of them will have a positive influence on this young roster.

The OL will be the reason why this offense sucks this season. The Guards are probably already solved and RT is a complete question mark? ZERO depth will equal certain disaster.

Toilet is NOT a HC, nor will he ever be. I've seen enough already to know he sucks.

All great bullets and I hope they all come true. You did miss a few key one though:

-Lee becomes that enforcer MLB we desperately need
-We find that our rookie TE combined with Seferian-Jenkins makes a excellent combo
-The RB of the future (next 10-13 years), we find that we have on this team
-Our rookie combo corners step up with Burris and make a four-horse cornerback combination of terror for years to come

I think Lee will become more of a sideline-to-sideline tracker rather than an enforcer. I am cautiously optimistic about ASJ, but as I've said in another post, we were saying similar things about him as we were about Milliner a year ago. I think Leggett was a good get for round 5, but it will take a year or so for him to become a factor. I just don't see a RB of the future on this roster. I agree about Burris but the rookie corners won't see much, if any, action this year.

But hey, here's hoping you're right!

Somebody is not going to like the Lee comments.

I guess we'll see? I guess I must be the bad guy for pointing out simple physical size matters in football today in Toilet's style of defense? I just can't help thinking there will come a day when Lee is the last line of defense preventing a RB from breaking a long one with the game on the line. If he gets blown up (and it isn't any ridiculous assertion to think he will. I'm certainly not alone about size concerns for our ILB's), what will everyone say then?

After it happens repetitively, will everyone continue to make excuses and criticize MJ more, or will they finally realize that maybe, just maybe, that 2016 1st round draft choice could have been much better utilized?

We all know the answer to that question.....

You might be 100% correct, but lets give him more than a season to see what his worth really is.

All due respect, I get this from everyone? I have no control over what the Jets do. You want Minnie Mouse to get more time and I guarantee you the team will give him that time.

I'm just telling you I think I have a good idea how this all works out? The defense over all won't be bad, a bright spot for the team overall. The team overall will be horrible. About 3 wins is the Jets ceiling for wins this season.

Lee, however will be further exposed for the bad pick that he is? He will continue to get blown up in the running game. He will continue to give up big, game changing plays in the passing game.

If the CS attempts to play him outside, that will also ultimately end in failure.

Jets fans in general will understand that Lee is a liability, and likely, due to his size, will never get better?

Well the good thing is this is a lost year so Bowles can get fired after this year and Lee can be cut and it won't matter. This will be the most stress free season I have ever had. If they are terrible then I won't watch. If they show glimpses then I will look forward to next year.

Even if he's every bit as bad as what I'm saying, there's no way he'll get cut and that's the problem with a pick like that. You're stuck paying for a useless bum much longer than you want to.

The Jets have a long history of bad picks so we all should be used to this. I'm just going to wait at least two years of a career before I start hating players.

Objectively speaking, Minnie Mouse is already miles better than Gholston, but of course that isn't saying anything.

All in all, Verne will go down as a player useful for a very specific scenario. Example: when you want to put 3 Safeties on the field or you need someone for the wheel route.

Verne is not an every down player or a guy you can build he's complimentary at best in very specific scenarios.
