day two is in the books and all signs point to Hack improving. Hopefully he can win the job and not look back. I'll post a few updates later but this is encouraging.

He's looking good while throwing but is holding onto the ball a bit too much leading to sacks. Tomorrow pads come one.

Thanks and keep us posted!!! I getting very excited about this. I know the Jets will suck but I'm talking about the youth movement. The direction this team is going and the route their taking to possible success is LONG OVERDUE.

BTW: I started a new thread pretty much covering my thoughts on Hack, this training camp and the youth movement period. Mods, feel free to move that thread into this one if necessary. Thanks

Practice Observations: Richardson in 'Peaceful Place'

Sheldon Richardson is often the man who gets overlooked up front. Leonard Williams is a budding star and Muhammad Wilkerson is feeling better after playing through pain last season, but Richardson remains one of the most unique talents on the entire roster.

“He’s in a good place. Obviously he worked hard all offseason,” said head coach Todd Bowles following the Jets second practice of camp. “He’s in a good place and he’s healthy. He doesn’t have any nicks bothering him and he came in ready to go. You have to love the way he comes in. He’s inspiring a lot of people, his running test was outstanding and we’re just looking forward to him getting better and better.”

Bowles went on to say that Richardson is in a “peaceful place.” All three of the Jets quarterbacks were often under duress in team drills Sunday and Richardson, who is entering his fifth season, is an interior player that consistently gets a good push.

“I always talk about it with people that it’s sad that I’m one of the older guys now. I take it with a grain of salt,” said the 26-year-old Richardson. “If guys ask questions, then I’ll have answers for them. If I don’t, then I’ll tell them to go to a person that I think would have the answer for them. Personally, leadership wise, I try to keep the guys going. It just started, but that’s what I’m here for.”

[TWEET]891758788612632576[/TWEET]

While helping some of the younger players, the 6’3”, 294-pound Richardson is also pleased he added up a new mentor in defensive line assistant La’Roi Glover. In 13 NFL seasons, Glover racked up 83.5 QB sacks and was a four-time All-Pro.

“He won’t show me his film right now. I don’t know why, but I’m trying to learn some more from him,” Richardson said. “Little tidbits that made him a great defensive lineman when he was playing here and there. And he’s one of the guys too.”

QB Rotation Remains
Josh McCown was again followed by Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty. They each had their moments and there were no turnovers in team drills, but the signal callers sometimes faced blanketed coverage as the pressure engulfed them. Hackenberg showed moxie on a pump fake to Quincy Enunwa that allowed the receiver to get space and make a play down the field. Petty had a gorgeous back-shoulder toss to Myles White down the sideline.

Claiborne Excused
After a sensational opening day, Morris Claiborne was absent from the practice field. Bowles said the former Cowboy was excused for personal reasons and will return to action Monday. With Claiborne out, second-year CB Juston Burris received a lot of reps with the first unit defense.

Injury Update
Veteran T Ben Ijalana (knee) saw limited work in team drills, opening up at left tackle. Rookie wideouts ArDarius Stewart (thumb/groin) and Chad Hansen (knee) were again limited to individuals while DB Corey White did not practice after tweaking his back.

Et Cetera
Bowles raved about the maturity level of rookie safeties Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, saying the pair exceeded the team’s expectations in the spring… Rookie OLB Dylan Donahue dropped at least 20 yards down the field in order to break up a Hackenberg pass intended for rookie TE Jordan Leggett…Third-year player Chris Harper has been active, hauling in a number of balls this weekend… After two sessions without pads, the Jets will have all their gear on tomorrow for the first time in 2017. “It’s good because that’s when camp really starts,” Bowles said.

Cautiously optimistic, but Hack appears to have made definite progress. I wonder how much is due to new QB coach Bates, or that he was able to hit the reset button and sit and learn. Whatever the reason, and it may be a combination of things, I'm hoping the trajectory is continuous. Managing expectations and his development will be a true test for the organization.

Agreed and not only the way they manage the expectation but the heart and motivation for Hack to win this battle and be the best QB he can will mean so much across the board. I don't think anyone in the Pats organization thought Tom Brady was going to be all world his rookie year and had to do nothing to help develop him. Brady needed a year to be ready and not saying Hack will be that caliber QB but man it sure would be nice.

FLORHAM PARK -- Two up. Two down.

The Jets put the finishing touches on their second camp practice Sunday, their final before strapping on the pads. Who stood out? Here are the three stars:

MYLES WHITE, receiver: When the Jets cut Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker this offseason, it opened the door for several young guys to step up and earn a roster spot. Through two camp practices, White is among those making his presence felt.

He's not a household name, but the versatile wideout is taking advantage of extra reps with rookies Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart sidelined with injuries. He caught just about everything thrown his way Sunday, including two beautiful back-shoulder passes from quarterback Bryce Petty, and a long one from Josh McCown down the seam.

DARRYL ROBERTS, cornerback: The Jets claimed Roberts after the Patriots waived him last summer. He played sparingly during the season. Defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers said two months ago he wished he got Roberts in the game more. This summer, you're seeing why.

Roberts looks good with the second-team defense, and is starting to challenge for additional playing time. On Sunday, he had a beautiful breakup of a Christian Hackenberg pass for Jalin Marshall, and a near interception of Bryce Petty.

LUCKY WHITEHEAD, receiver: The Jets claimed Whitehead off the waiver Wednesday, so he's a bit behind the eight ball. He primarily returns kicks, with a few sporadic reps on offense. The Jets may want to increase that.

On the last play of practice, Whitehead caught a simple slant from Bryce Petty... and took off. He outran the entire defense like I haven't seen a player do before. The guy is absurdly fast. Several defenders ran up to him after the play and relayed the same. He could turn into an interesting weapon for offensive coordinator John Morton.

Connor Hughes ? @Connor_J_Hughes
Hackenberg very impressive in that WR/DB drill. Some really, really impressive throws. McCown and Petty both struggled #jets

clearly a different QB than last year.

Tomorrow they are in pads and it gets real. Plus they scrimmage in a few days, so hopefully he keeps this up. Let's all keep our fingers crossed Jets faithful. Prayers up!!!

Note: From the looks of the videos, I didn't realize they started full pads today.

Very encouraging to hear good things about Hack.

I find it funny how the media ambushed the Jets handling of Christian by sitting him down. Many calling him a "Bust". Now that he is progressing just fine, some reporters are saying NOT to rush him.

Good to hear that some of MM's mid-late round picks from the last two drafts/UDFA's are looking good in camp so far. Teams that are successful in the long term are stocked with these type of low cost assets. The last two years have yielded Justin Burris, Derrick Jones, Dylan Donahue, Jordan Leggett, Jenkins, Anderson, LThomas Simon, Peake, Shell, etc. There's also Stewart and Hansen who have not yet fully participated, but I'm hopeful will excel also. A lot to be enthused about particularly if Hack continues his development.

I'm hoping ASG and Leggett can provide huge mismatches. TE's are nice compliments for young QB's. Maybe we can have a Gronk/Hernandez combo minus the murdering and suiciding.
