[h=3]Jets First Two Picks of 2017 Draft Impressing Coaches Thus Far, Taking First-Team Reps[/h] The Jets have revamped their secondary with a pair of rookies from the Southeastern Conference leading the safeties in Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye.

“Marcus and I have a phenomenal opportunity,” Adams said following Sunday’s practice. “We’re back there working together running with the ones. We’re just trying to take advantage of every opportunity as well as the other young guys.”

Roommates in both rookie minicamp and now training camp, the duo spends a lot of time together both studying film and hanging out, which have helped their chemistry on the gridiron.

“I was just talking with him,” Adams said of Maye. “We don’t see each other too much at night because we get out pretty late. When we do have time, we definitely sit down and go over some things.”

“It’s been great,” Maye said. “We’ve been doing it since rookie minicamp. Being around each other 24/7 is helping us get that much better on the field, so it’s been great.”

The Jets thought highly of the rookie tandem leading up the Draft and felt fortunate they were both on the board in both the first and second rounds when the team was on the clock. So far, coaches and colleagues have been thoroughly impressed with the LSU and Florida products.

“They can play. It’s rare that these types of things happen, but those two guys showed so much in the spring in what we brought them along with,” head coach Todd Bowles said after Sunday’s practice. “They could only get better. Their maturity level as far as learning the plays exceeded what we wanted as far as expectations as rookies. We think those guys are ready to play.”

Hoping and looking forward to them being forces in the back end of the Jets defense for years to come. This can possibly be the east coast safety version of the legion of boom.

This is the area of the team that I am most interested in seeing the development from week to week. These guys could be beasts from day one?

I said it when we drafted Maye that we should have drafted Dalvin Cook. Another decision this organization will regret.

They could have also drafted Mixon and been just as good with him. Mixon is riding the bench right now but when he starts playing, we'll all see what the Jets missed out there as well.

I was very happy with both these picks but would have been happier with an offensive powerhouse talent in the second round. There were so many to choice from. SMDH!!!

Well so far Mixon doesn't look as good as Cook. As far as two safeties when you have zero playmakers on offense, thats just another dumb pick from an inept organization.

Let's see what we have with McGuire before trashing the selection of Maye in the 2nd round. He looked pretty competent in pre-season, and as we have seen a lot lately, productive RBs have been chosen in mid-late rounds. Having two young stud safeties to form the backbone of your secondary is not a bad thing at all. Let's let this play out before jumping all over MM.

We could only hope. That would be a great foundation for a championship defense a few years down the road

With hindsight being 20-20, I really wanted the Jets to keep their pick in the 3rd and trade up to get Kareem Hunt or Alvin Kamara? Can you imagine either of those young kids on the Jets? That's called instant offense. I definitely don't feel they would do as well behind this OL, but they would be an immediate upgrade over what we currently have.
