Just preseason game one but there are some definite shakeups and possible head scratchers... Looks like we lost Doug Middleton for the year with a torn pec. in Saturdays game vs. the Titans and there was some definite surprising play from our role players that look to have locked up some roster spots early in training camp/preseason... Well here we go again with Part II of Project your 53 man roster:
OFFENSE
QB: (2) Hackenberg, McCown
RB: (3) Powell, McGuire, Forte, Morris
FB: (1) Firsker
WR: (5) Anderson, Peake, Stewart, Hansen, Harper
TE: (3) S-Jenkins, Leggett, Vander Laan
OT: (4) Beachum, Shell, Ijalana, Qvale
OG: (3) Carpenter, Winters, Dozier
OC: (2) Johnson, Harrison
DEFENSE
DE: (4) Wilkerson, Richardson, Williams, Thomas
DT: (3) McClendon, Simon, Still
OLB: (4) Donahue, Mauldin, Jenkins, J. Martin
MLB: (4) Lee, Davis, Stanford, Harris
CB: (6) Claiborne, Burris, Skrine, McDougle, Roberts, Coleman
FS: (2) Adams, R. Martin
SS: (3) Maye, Thomas, Miles
K: (1) Ross Martin
P: (1) Edwards
LS: (1) Purdum
In this edition, I don't see Lucky Whitehead making the cut... If anything the Jets will keep a fourth RB that will help out on returns like Romar Morris... Can see Chris Harper also fielding punts... Just from that one play in Saturdays game Devon Still showcased he is still a beast and would be a welcomed addition to the defensive line, so have him replacing Mike Pennel who also looked good, this will be an interesting competition for that third defensive tackle roster spot, not saying Simon has done enough behind McClendon but the team is very high on Simon...
Even tho Darryl Roberts had a tough out the team likes his vertical speed, he just needs to clean up his technique a bit... While fourth year man Dexter McDougle had an impressive day against the Titans and has creeped back in to the fold... Both drafted rookies are on the out looking in, while undrafted free agent Xavier Coleman looks to lock up the sixth and final roster spot for the position...
Still have to believe the Jets could carry five safeties especially after the injury to cover safety Doug Middleton likely lost for the season, they will need help behind the two rookies for at least this season...
Other than that no real surprises except for both situational linebackers Josh Martin and Julian Stanford proving they can do much more than be special teams aces...
