Russell Wilson played exclusively against 2's and 3's his rookie camp and was name starter. So. What's your point? Players get opportunities when they do and the bottom line is the last 2 camps Petty has been the best QB and the Jets have failed to prepare and make him the starter. His time is now. McCown starting is about as pointless as a virgin going to the Vatican to hit on a nun.

Bryce Petty played with the majority of the so called starters for this year, last year... One could look at it like he was breaking in the newly drafted players this year to build chemistry... McGuire, Stewart, and Hansen all played exclusively with Petty... If Petty's injury is minor then give him ten days or so to heal and name him starter and go from there... Will Petty be the saving grace, who cares he deserves to be named the starter regardless who he played against, he has shown major strides since last season... C'mon a perfect passer rating with not one not two but three touchdowns and the second one to Stewart wasn't even his go to on that play he found him after scrambling when the play broke down... Just hope he is okay, because the offense will look somewhat better with a more stable signal caller that has continuity with the majority of the offense whom were here last year...
Hackenberg needed to get roughed up, now he has tape to learn from while Petty gets the start and McCown is the backup... Hack had it rough in college but the only way for him to ever get over the hump was to be put in this situation, he may not of been ready to compete but now he knows what to expect and will understand what he needs to do to overcome his weaknesses... This does not mean the team won't invest another pick into another quarterback next draft but they did allow him to get real time experience against projected starters in preseason...
As for rumors about McCown having dead arm, just another one of those spoofs our amazing bottom feeding reporters with their so called sources made up to explain why the McCrutch hasn't seen his fair share of time this preseason either in practice or during the games...

BS. It's not like it's a prerequisite to go full on Cleveland Browns so you can rebuild. Bottom line in this case is our HC and GM failed us. Their incompetence is beginning to be seen in the spotlight. Very embarrassing for us as fans, but we should resign ourselves to wanting change? At the very least the HC must be fired. At the very least we need a GM that can actually draft talent?
If those two objectives can be achieved in the off season, we will instantly be a much more competitive team that is on the rise. And had we hired the right guys in the first place, we would never have needed to go through the pain of the last 2 seasons and this shit show we're about to embark on?
So you were happy with the mediocrity train Rex gave us the last 4 years and then same thing with Bowles?? At some point you have to try something different.

if wilson was getting nothing but reps with 2's & 3's, it was because it was a forgone conclusion flynn was going to be the guy..
bowles said from the beginning of camp, there would be an open competition for the starting job.. if you see it being equitable for petty to only get reps with 2's & 3's while mccown & hackenberg split reps with the 1's, what can i tell you..
Mac should start and take the lumps so the OL can jell...if that is possible. Then Petty should come in after ac gets hut and play. hack is simply not ready and frankly may never be.
AS for the OL, I have said it before - to build a contender you do it in the trenches... OL needs some serious help.

still, it's hard for me to buy the plan all along was to give flynn a nice contract, only to make wilson the day one starter..

There is none. Short term maybe we win 5-7 games with McCown... doesn't help anything ... Long Term hurts us cause if he wins 7 games we will have to trade a lot to get a QB next year.
At least playing Petty does 1 of 3 things 1. Shows us he isn't a gonna be on the team next year. 2. Shows he can be a solid spot starter backup.3 by some great miracle he plays lights out and becomes the QB we need. At best we know McCown is 1 or 2 already....

We know nothing cause McCown is starting... And apparently The CS and FO think he will be the guy to take us to the playoffs for years to come.... UGHHH
