What Position do you think the Jets will go this year?

Taking a look at our current roster, free agents that are likely NOT to return and some that may be back... What position do you think is most important that this year we SHOULD target...

In the poll, select the position...

Reply here with the position and a possible target 1st round talent that could be the next Jets first round selection...

I just posted my first unofficial mock draft if anyone wants to check it out, and all feedback is welcomed.

I posted it in the NCAA forum (link below)

Hams first unoffical mock draft

I voted OLB in this poll even though I projected a QB, but much of it depends on where we pick. I'm hoping we pick last, thats why I had us missing on the most desirable OLB's at 31, so I took the small school, high ceiling QB.

I'd really like a stud at oline if practical based on draft position and available talent. Or oline in fa,and draft olb pass rusher.

My list based on biggest impact for our needs over the next 4 years...
O line
Olb
Cb
Rb
Wr
Te
Qb

if it were up to me, i'd go O line or maybe a linebacker.

what we actually end up with depends on Mac's strategy this year. if he goes best player available again, it could be basically any position.

I expect we will go with the best player available, but hope its OL

I hope we stay far away from Derrick Henry - fear that he is a creature of lots of carries behind a great OL. Thinking of some other Bama guys of late.....

If they go OL (and I think that is their #1 need) the one player who has impressed me the most is the center named Kelly who played yesterday (Clemsen? Alabama?).
On one play he threw a block about 40 yards downfield when most linemen would have been content opening a hole or protecting the passer. This guy finished his assignment more impressively and memorably than any lineman I've seen in a long while.
We saw how bad the team looked when Mangold was hurt this year. I'd draft this guy as Nick's line mate and future replacement.

I voted OL, but I could easily see TE. They are both areas of huge need. With that said, our GM has already proven that he doesn't draft for need, he goes for the BAP. Considering that, no position is considered all set; QB, FB, WR.

Offensive Line, Linebacker or Secondary. Anything else is meh for me. Maybe another receiver?

the jets should take the best rated player available when it is their turn to pick. they did that when they picked leonard Williams and they will do it again.

they only picked BAP last year because they only had 3 players valued in that top 8 and Williams was one of them... they tried to trade down to stock pile picks but no one offered anything of value...

this year we are projected in the mid to late 20's expect the Jets to be flexible looking for specific positions depending on prospect rankings could trade back and acquire future selections...

slight chance they trade up a few spots if a prospect drops down who is high on their board, this regime is not like Tannebaum as they are football knowledgeable with Maccagnan a true director of scouting in his resume...

i said oline first but wouldn't be surprised to see olb either. Really not sure how much pace has left.

has nothing to do with Pace, they like Reilly and Mauldin still in his transition phase... they also like Julian Stanford with Josh Martin but adding another edge rusher could be key... Pace if he still has anything in the tank the team will sign him just to keep that ancient veteran to mentor the youngins.

right now looking at the roster so many things are in flux and looking at the prospect rankings who knows we could take another CB like Kendal Fuller from Virginia Tech -- I know not ideal situation but this kid has more talent then his brothers and could develop behind the likes of Marcus Williams who we have for next season(year 3) plus ERFA (year 4)...

Dee Milliner guaranteed salary next season is unlikely to be released, McDougle still trying to find his role...
Skrine and Revis are here for a minute...

And we don't know where Cromartie folds into the near future...

Expect Darrin Walls is likely out after this year entering FA could be in Buffalo?

Another option is WR, just saying the slow development and second injury to Devin Smith could force the team to draft another target to mix in with our current 4 man rotation especially if they make the move permanent for Q. Enunwa to be that H Back we will be in need of another weapon for Fitz...

I think you are totally incorrect about that, I have no doubt that Macc will always go BPA in the first round, as do all of the top personnel guys. Later in the draft you can focus on need, but the surest way to get a first round bust is to draft for a positional need instead of taking the highest rated available player from your draft board.

Problem is, by the time you get below 20, there may not be that "obvious" BPA. Once players have similar rankings, then need becomes more relevant.

I don't think we took LW because he was BPA, but because he was BPA by a wide margin . . .

I agree. The further along in the draft, it's not as easy a decision as at 6. Williams was a no brainer. You need someone to fall far to have a clear cut BPA. Need has to be considered at some point in the discussion. They may grade an LT as high as a strong safety, my money they go with the LT.
