After Goff, Wentz, Lynch, Cook and Hackenberg there is 5 mid round quarterbacks that have good potential to work with... If the Jets front office is looking to draft a young signal caller to develop along side Bryce Petty with the hopes of one of them taking the next step in possibly becoming a serious contender to either become a bridge quarterback or evolve into the franchise the team has been seeking for years... Let's take a look at the top five mid round quarterback prospects:
1) Cardale Jones (Projected 3/4 Rnd)
Jones has a live arm to generate easy velocity anywhere he wants on the field, but his hose lacks consistent direction with hot-cold accuracy downfield - more of a thrower than passer at this point in his development. He doesn't play with anticipation and is still very raw reading coverages, needing extensive work under the hood before he's ready for NFL snaps. Jones is a developmental option whose final draft grade will be determined by his pre-draft process.
2) Dak Prescott (Projected 4/5 Rnd)
Scouts knew he was a bruising runner, using his size, quickness and toughness to run over defenders, but Prescott has shown a much improved feel in the passing game, displaying anticipation, decisiveness and above average awareness to recognize things quickly and react accordingly. He deserves credit for the positive steps he has taken, but a lot of scouts aren't sold quite yet as Prescott tends to predetermine his throws and has the bad habit of locking onto his targets, missing open reads downfield.
3) Kevin Hogan (Projected 4/5 Rnd)
One could argue that no senior quarterback prospect has helped himself more this season than Hogan, who has forced NFL scouts to take second and third looks at him. Although his elongated delivery and inconsistent passing vision are concerns, he's built for the NFL game with the toughness, heart and intangibles that teams covet at the next level.
4) Brandon Allen (Projected 5 Rnd)
Last summer, scouts viewed Allen as a camp arm and longshot to be drafted, but with his productive senior year, he will receive draftable grades from some teams as he has shown the necessary skills to develop into a backup at the next level.
5) Jacoby Brissett (Projected 5 Rnd)
Brissett is well-built with physical traits for the next level with his size, mobility and arm talent. He can make NFL throws, but is also slow to read and showed gun shy tendencies as a downfield thrower - was the king of dink and dunk and check downs inflated his completion percentage.
Of these five three are on the Jets radar: Dak Prescott, Kevin Hogan & Jacoby Brissett...
