2017 draft class reminiscent of 2006 draft class

2006 draft class built a foundation for the New York Jets for many years.

*D'Brick
*Mangold
Kellen Clemens
Schlegal
*Brad Smith
*Leon Washington
Jasion Posiask
*Eric Smith
*Drew Coleman
Titus Adams

6 out of those 10 players were integral pieces to the puzzle to build around when we had strong seasons that led up to two straight AFCCG with Rex when he became HC. In 2007 we drafted Revis and Harris to go along with our youth movement. I believ thats what separated Mangini from coaches that we had in the past. He and Tannenbaum really believed in building through the drraft and the 2006 class really placed their stamp on it.

I believe the 9 that were drafted can come pretty close to that. Contributing in their own respective ways if obviously they dont get injured.

Jamal Adams +
Marcus Maye New secondary right off the bat

Ardarius Stewart can become that home run threat we've been lacking for years

Chad Hanson can be a younger, faster Eric Decker

Jordan Leggett is an exceptional Tight end in which new OC John Morton can guide him on possibly mimicking Jimmy Graham in whom he had in New Orleans

Dylan Donahue has a sick motor. Couple that with our new linebackers coach channeling through him in Kevin Greene, we might have a steal

Elijah McGuire can very much be Leon Washington 2.0. Explosive scat back and returner.

so far we have 6 legit rookies that can contribute this season and the next to come just like the 2006 class.

My wild cards are the final two picks; One coming off an injury in Jeremy Clark and a converted WR into CB Derrick Jones.

All in all if we hit on atleast 5 of these picks, Mac and his scouting team would deserve more than a standing ovation...more like an extension.

Hope you had a good time in Philly.

Love reading your posts Dan. Always find the sunshine in every situation. Breath of fresh air to read on here.

We can only hope that this draft can turn out to be as successful as the 2006 draft. This is the exact type of draft that Mac needs to set this team on the right path. I do think that he was able to add a lot of talent this year to a roster that was devoid of it.

We are not making much damage this season so I hope to see these guys all on the field getting some playing time and learning the ropes of the NFL.

I really like the last two picks as developmental guys. They have the right measurable to be two tough cbs. Clark may have gone higher if he didn't suffer the ACL injury.

I agree. Hope I'm not wrong, but I see, as of right now, at least 3 starters. The two safeties? Of course they'll start, they are no brainers. Jordan Leggett is more than likely a starter given how weak our TE's are. From there? Who knows? Maybe ArDarius Stewart or Chad if Decker gets cut? Either way you look at it, this is probably a good draft for a team missing a lot of pieces......

The similarity I see is this group could be leaders the way D'Brick and Thor were for many years. I think Adams and Maye will bring exactly that to the defense. And I see Stewart and Hansen as contributing almost immediately. Leggett, if used right, can be a weapon, albeit not a complete TE.

i was extremely critical of drafting another safety at 39 but i must admit to being very happy with our draft..

on paper, it really does look like maccagnan did a great job bringing in a talented group from top to bottom..

i'm excited to see what these kids bring to the table..

It's a long shot but be on the look out for Connor Harris ILB Lindenwood. He might be the Harris that replaces Harris.

On NFL Radio today Pat Kirwan said this kid was impressive at the Senior Bowl and will make the team...

If healthy, Jeremy Clark was considered a 3rd round cb. He should be a starter on this pitiful secondary, but it depends on his style of play and health.

He's definitely an optimist, and that can be a very good thing at times. I don't share quite his level of optimism, but I am encouraged by the draft.

If Clark can recover from injury he will make practice squad with call up later... don't think any of the late picks are more than ST for a season or two...is Jalin eligible to be on practice squad? His only chance if he clears suspension
