Happy Anniversary!
My most vivid memory of that day was watching the post game locker room celebration. Pete Rozelle was in there to hand out the trophy and MVP awards. Joe Namath looked at him and said "Welcome to the American Football League". The look on Rozelle's face almost made up for the abuse and humiliation NFL owners, players, broadcasters and fans had heaped on AFL Players and fans for years. Since the early AFL days, I have never typed or spoken the name of that other team with which we share a stadium because they never gave the AFL scores on that team's broadcasts.

Whats said little about this game is the Colts destroyed everyone that year and had 1 loss to Browns that Colts destroyed in playoffs. This Colts team was stacked on both sides of the ball and had 2 of the best QBs on the team at same time. Jets after beating Raiders was given little chance to beat the NFL Beast Team Colts and was hoping after destroying the Jets would break away from the AFL showing they couldnt compete. Instead Jets won by running the ball and Defense with Colts scared of Namath pass attack. Al Davis after that game wanted to leave the NFL in the dust having the TV airing rights. AFC changed the game to everything you see today,TV, passing, names on cool looking jerseys, recognizing players and hiring,Drafting the best to Coach and Play and not by color or gender while paying them. NFL was take what we give or dont play! Thats why I liked the AFL and Jets for what was done by beating the racist,controling powerful NFL back then with their boring uniforms with a number on it.
Sadly this Jets team has never been back due to bad owners, awful Drafting of key positions and awful Coaches. Jets has passed on so many great QBs and I never paid attention to until passing on Marino. Still it goes on and passing on Josh Allen was about last straw with me. We had a chance to get that QB that comes around every 10 to 15 years like Manning, Luck but couldnt boot 3 games to change and fix our Jets pathetic thinking. Lots of teams have booted entire seasons like Colts to get that QB to change franchise and instead we give the Jags that pick who made sure not to be as Stupid as Jets losing the QB that can change their franchise to a championship team. There is a risky QB in Zack Wilson, but I know Jets will not make a right decision because really there was only 1 QB in this Draft and Jets didnt want him letting Jags have him. So Jets keep Darnold or Draft some big College QB surrounded by talent that made the QB look better like Ohio or Bama and do the norm like Josh Allen.
I was 12 at the time and have been a Jet fan ever since. Call me an idiot, but I haven't regretted it one bit. It will make it that much sweeter when we bring the trophy home again.

Been Fan a couple years before you. But I didnt like the NFL. I loved the new AFL . Maybe easy for you in NY being a Jet fan but try it across to west when our Jets do stupid things over and over. When Rex had team I could rub it in. Ive been a Mets fan little longer. Except Mets finally got a owner who is a Mets fan. So fan of Mets ,Jets till coach and Draft,Celtics,Rangers Hockey are my teams since 68 except Rangers in 75. You try being a fan of a team as bad as Jets across the Nation for over 50 years and see how long you would last being a loyal fan as I have.
