If the Jets, after a horrible season are expected to make "MAJOR" changes, it should start with these moves: (sure there will be some dead money but these are the risks when the GM offers an exorbitant amount of money to acquire a coveted free agent that doesn't pan out)

Marcus Gilchrist $4.6 Savings- ($2.8 Dead cap)
David Harris $6mil savings ( $0 dead cap)
Nick Mangold: $9 mil savings ($0 dead cap)
Brandon Marshall: $7.5 Mil savings ($0 dead cap)
Breno Giacomini: $ 4.5mil savings ($0 dead cap)
Darrelle Revis: 10.5 mil savings ($6mil dead cap)
Ryan Clady: $10 mil savings ($0 dead cap)
Erin Henderson $2 mil savings. ($ 0 dead cap)
Trade or Cut Matt Forte'
Trade Sheldon Richardson
Trade Calvin Pryor
Trade or Cut Buster Skrine

Out of all of these i'd keep Henderson at his current contract. Out of any of these players, i'd ask Nick to take a significant pay cut or else we cut ties.

With this opened free cap space, i see no reason Macagnan cant Build an experienced O-Line. Fill a pass rushing need. Acquire a Veteran QB to be added into the mix. Build a team with a GREAT combo of Vets and Rooks with the appropriate leadership.

Make no mistake, we have a good young group of players that the team could build upon:

CB Juston Burris

RT Brandon Shell

DL Leonard Williams

WR Quincy Enunwa

OLB Jordan Jenkins

NT Deion Simon

RB Bilal Powell

WR Charone Peake

TE Seferian-Austin Jenkins

OLB Lorenzo Mauldin

SS Rontez Miles

MLB Darron Lee

WR Robbie Anderson

Trust me, i cannot stand Todd Bowles. Though at the same token i'am willing to play devils advocate and give him a season with young players that are hungry to make a name for themselves. A team willing to grow together and building the right way.

If the cap space is opened up, i fully expect this Roster to be turned upside down and for the Jets to be big players in Free agency to acquire young talent and not over the hill personnel.

I would cut all of those guys. The Jets have a stud on defense to build around. Now they need a Fournette, Cook or Williams at #6 on offense to build around.

100%. I truly hope that is the plan. Dalvin is a beast man. I'd love for the Jets to get him.

We will most likely not be in contention for a Superbowl ring next year, but do we really want to see us with a team composed of players with an average experience of 3 years in the NFL and having no veteran leadership whatsoever? Dan, this is not directed at you specifically ( I agree with most of your posts), but Rome was not built in a day. Mangold , except for this year , has been a rock. and his being out of the lineup had more to do being the result of the team being out of the playoffs. Do you really think we are better off without , both his playmaking abilities and his leadership on where his linemen should line up?, Please , not for a minute , disregard his veteran leadership , notably , in directing his OL on responsibilities. That leadership does not stop there. Did you notice what happened when our most integrate part of there defense and play caller ( David Harris ) went down with injury? Missed assignments resulting in a touchdown. Keep Revis , make him a FS , with Miles as the strong safety, and draft the best mike LB in the draft. and add the best cb available. That is my solution to staying competitive, while building through the draft.

I theory it is sound but in this case out with the old & in with the new. Revis seems to have lost "it" & Mangold is a train wreck waiting to happen Plus he had a year with Johnson. It is time to bring in winners.....Now if they keep Mangold will I be upset.....NO. They know better what someone has left.....In TB I trust

It will be interesting to see what Macc does, but it's obvious he will have to do a lot of restructuring of contracts or cut a lot of veterans to help rebuild this roster.

The youth movement is full swing, but we need near prime/close to prime veterans to help have a competitive team. The over the hill guys need to go and we need to build through the draft as well as adding key glue guys in free agency.

Lots of work to do, so lets see how good of a personnel guy Macc really is.

I agree with Keeping Nick, but not at the rate that he's at now. As you eloquently stated, Rome was not built in a day. Year three is where Mac and the scouts begin to really dig into the prospects of this team. This is a make or break draft and off season.

I'am thinking that we will get atleast a 4rth and 5th compensatory picks for Ivory and Harrison. Plus, trading away say a Sheldon will garner us yet another 4rth rounder.
I know i shouldnt say this but, i'am expecting a tremedous off season. A 5-11 club that had high expectation and underwhelmed should be blown up and go full throttle at the youth movement.

......

Now watch them go get Romo ..lol
