A Brick replacement?

ESPN -- The Jets were in the running for coveted guard/tackle Kelechi Osemele, according to NFL Media. This is very interesting because of Osemele's price tag; he reportedly agreed to a deal with the Oakland Raiders that will pay him $11 million per year. (By rule, the deal isn't official until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday.) That's left-tackle money, not guard money. If the Jets were in the bidding, it makes you wonder if they're looking to upgrade at left tackle. D'Brickashaw Ferguson is coming off a so-so year and he has a $14.1 million cap charge.

Something is brewing here if the report above is anywhere true maybe Brick is either replacing Breno on the right side or the front office is shopping him quietly???

Or maybe the jets were used to increase the Raiders bid. Putting that cash into our line means someone is restructuring. Putting youth into it without signing Fitz, means they're prepping for petty.

The cost to move up in the draft would be detrimental, compounded by only having 6 picks. An nfl rebuild is 2-3 years. We're entering year 2.

I wouldn't move up for either of those two QBs either as both may be available at #20. Cook may even be available in 2nd, and from what I am reading Lynch could be around at #20.

Draft stock fluctuates through the next few months, but that's what I'm reading, too. Cook is a talented player, but I've read that some teams are a little concerned about his selfishness. They worry about him being a team guy and a good leader. If Paxton Lynch is there at #20, that could get really interesting if the Jets like him. If I'm Macc, I'd consider that one.

What's his upside compared to Petty?

Would we just be stockpiling QBs and hoping the Law of Averages works in our favor, or does this guy bring more to the table?

(If you can't tell, you're talking to someone with NO knowledge of CFB . . .)

Stockpiling the shelves. Bingo.

I subscribe to the theory of drafting a few QB's with upside, and developing them in your system. It's exactly what you suggested: law of averages. When you can't get the Mariota's, Winston's, ect. you do the next best thing.

Are there teams that have done this in the past? I believe in the same thing but I wonder if it worked out for anyone in the past. Only the redskins come to mind.

Brock Osweiler, Derek Carr, and Colin Kaepernick were all 2nd round picks. Russell Wilson and Mike Glennon were drafted in the 3rd, and Kirk Cousins in the 4th. It's not as probable of hitting the jackpot as drafting a highly touted guy in the top 10, but it's possible with good scouting and a little luck.

You ain't winning if you ain't trying.

Connor Cook: Once moved from his original spot, he attempts to "arm" everything and abandon his base footwork, often content making throws with his weight falling away from his target. Cook isn't fully comfortable with a muddy pocket, which forces his eye level to wander and confuses his internal clock.

He will make a handful of high risk throws each game and is too willing to deliver into high traffic areas after staring down receivers.

Given time like in college he can develop into a fine quarterback but scheme fit is very important... He is known for firing quick passes underneath with the ability to thread the needle on deeper sideline throws. Has excellent experience, and his poise in key situations has improved throughout his career.

Look I had two quarterbacks last draft on my big board for our team and Connor Cook was number one with Bryce Petty number two... Do I feel we need to draft Cook this year after acquiring Petty last year, no... Could we draft a mid round quarterback to compete along side Petty moving forward yes, someone like Dak Prescott or Kevin Hogan are options...

i'm not a college football guy but what i've heard from people (at JFU) that are is this..

there's not a huge divide in potential with the kids that will get drafted in the 1st round in comparison to those that get picked in the mid rounds.....

then the question is do you draft using a high pick for a caliber player you can find lets say in the 4th or 5th round?

I know this the Jets do like Paxton Lynch, but at the same time they like Dak Prescott... Lynch is a late 1st/early 2nd round prospect while Prescott is a late 4th/early 5th... If both need to be developed, which one do you draft? They are similar in skill-set one is a monster in height, but does that give him the edge?

I'd rather have the Driskel kid out of LA Tech than Cook.
Hate what I saw of Cook when he played a big time Bama D.

I think considering petty is 1 season in to our system, drafting aqb at 20 is a silly risk. For one, we can draft a defensive lb which we really need, there's good talent at 20,less risk he bombs. Factor in a late 3rd round pick can get you a comparable 3rd stringer, why waste the pick on a gamble?

If Jets are starting to look at left tackles, you have to think they are considering cutting D’Brick Ferguson and his $14 million cap number

The #Jets are hosting #Steelers LT Kelvin Beachum on a visit soon, source said. Pittsburgh is hoping to get him back, but some competition.
