Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller just broke down every oline man in the AFC East and graded them, then gave a final grade to each unit. The AFC East rankings finished, from best to worst:

1) Bills
2) Pats
3) Jets
4) Phins

I agree. Our Oline is pretty bad but better than the phins. One thing we have on our side though is that Gailey likes to throw the ball and has quick routes in his offense. That should help the oline some.

Is James Carpenter a lock to start?

yes. They like him if he stays healthy. They had Brick as the 3rd best LT after Glenn and Soldier. They feel Mangold is still playing at a all pro level. Colon and Breno as huge question marks. They LOVE the Cannon kid the Pats just drafted.

All four are flawed O-lines with strengths, question marks and weaknesses.

For example, the Bills look strong at the tackles and questionable at the guards.

Ditto the Pats, good at the tackles, weak at the guards.

Jets should be fine at LT and Center, weak at RT and question marks are the guards.

Ditto Miami, good at LT and Center, weak at RT and the guards.

I think they're right and it is a huge concern going into this season. It's too much to think Maccagnan would have been able to fix the OL in this years draft on top of everything else. Something had to be neglected and in this case it was the OL.

Hopefully, there will be some late cuts that the Jets can take advantage of and improve the OL. Imagine how good Chris Ivory could be if he actually had a GREAT OL?

I think OL is a concern, but not a huge one. The important positions are managed by solid veterans, if declining. At some point you have to move on from D'Brick and Mangold, and it looks like Ferguson first. I would have been happy with a pick taken on a tackle who could start at RT for now, and be Ferguson's successor. But I can't complain at all about the draft the Jets had at all.

They love the Pats guards...especially their draft picks. They actually feel the Pats have the strongest guards in the division, just FYI.

Rex is sending the house at the right side of our oline all day.

I think Oday is gonna surprise people.

Hope so. I thought he looked good but I read reports that he was one of the reasons why bricks play declined. He was helping him out too much.

I've been kicking Mac in the balls for drafting Williams and not trading back and adding oline depth...but I love what Mac has done in all honest. Think of this:

he went in the offseason needing to fix: QB, CB, OL, WR, OLB/Pass Rush, FS, and RB depth (remember Powell and CJ2k were free agents)...and I probably wouldn't have minded a punter....

After free agency and the draft...you have to feel from that mammoth list...QB and OL. I even removed OLB because Williams will fill that role in how we design our pass rush.

I dont know if the formula will equal a lot of wins...we dont know how the offense will come together. But take this roster and add one of next year's top QBs or have Petty pick up the offense quick (Gaily and Petty = two very smart men, if they get on the same page could be special; but the same applies to Geno if they get on the same page, because Geno can sling it).

You're probably right. I would like to see a guard (Aboushi, Colon, Carpenter) step up at RG, and Giacomini to earn the money Idzik gave him. As for Breno, he can't be as bad as last year...can he?

I don't share their high opinion of the Pats OG's, but if they believe that, IMO they should have rated the Pats OL # 1

The Pats are pretty good at the Tackles and Center, so if you love their Guards too, they should be # 1

Also, we have Dakota, although I admit I know nothing about his development . Or perhaps the kid drafted this year will be a quick study . There are alternatives

I read a comment about Maccagnan being "a good evaluator of OL talent".

If true, perhaps our roster isn't as void of young talent as we fear, and a possible reason why he more aggressive seeking OL in FA/draft.

Or not . . .

I think the biggest concern OT depth.
