Yes the Jets are trying to secure depth behind the starting two but they have to be thinking it is time to draft at least one heir apparent considering Brandon Marshall is likely one or two years removed from retiring the same can be said about Eric Decker due to injuries mounting up he will likely play his way out of the league banged up... That being said after these two who do we really have, in my opinion no one but journeyman trying to catch on... Is there potential, yes but limited at best... Quincy Enunwa found a role in this offense but as a H-Back not as a traditional receiver...
Devin Smith experiment after this season will be over even tho he is still under contract... This training camp yet again he will not be able to develop his skills coming off injured reserve... This being the second training camp & off season work outs he will sit out has to be concerning on him developing into anything worthy as a number three receiver vertical threat option...
Joe Anderson is an interesting pickup but he isn't a spring chicken... Chandler Worthy looks to be worthy for the practice squad and Jeremy Ross will be subjected too special teams still leaving a void at the receiver position... Titus Davis will have another chance to make his case to make the active roster but if this is the best we can do we are in trouble if one or both starters get hurt...
Would love the Jets to draft one or two receivers this draft just to have a couple of prospects for the team to develop behind our starting tandem of Marshall & Decker...
Possible options:
Ohio State Braxton Miller - consider him a specialist, aka Brad Smith 2.0... QB, WR, KR, PR this kid can be used in so many ways that would give the team a bonus on offense...
Pittsburgh Tyler Boyd - has a large wingspan, hands catcher able to give his quarterback a large window to throw too...
California Kenny Lawler Jr. - like Braxton Miller, Lawler Jr. can be utilized in many ways not QB but as wide out or specialist returner...
Temple Robby Anderson - another hands catcher with an explosive first step... has to bulk up but could be a sleeper mid round selection...
There is a slim possibility that if LaQuon Treadwell fell to the Jets at No. 20 it would be too hard to pass on him... Similar to Eric Decker, he has exceptional ballskills and catching radius with strong hands to pluck away from his body... He isn't a sudden athlete, but plays with athletic twitch and power to be a threat after the catch... I know there are a lot of people praying that the Jets grab Will Fuller from Notre Dame but like Devin Smith he just isn't the typical receiver for this type of offense(Chan Gailey's game plan) and we have enough six foot receivers on the roster right now... Yes Fuller isn't the typical six footer but doubt Gailey would find a way to utilize him...
