1. Priorities
Maye was invited to attend the Draft in Philadelphia, but decided to stay home to walk across a different stage, graduation. The Melbourne, FL native returned for his senior year to earn a degree in African American studies.

“If I make a promise to anybody I want to follow it through — and this one was to my mom,” Maye said in an interview with SEC Country. “No one in my immediate family has graduated from college. The fact she wanted me to do that — not just play football, but also graduate — has been in the back of mind and knowing that the last year has always been a motivation for me.”

2. Highly Touted
A four-star high school prospect, Maye played safety and running back at Holy Trinity. He rushed for 712 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior and was ranked the No. 5 overall safety in the country. Maye chose to attend Florida over Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and LSU.

3. Maye-Day
Maye can play the run and the pass. According to Pro Football Focus, he had the second highest run-stop percentage among SEC safeties in and the second lowest catch rate percentage allowed in 2016.

4. Two-Sport Athlete
Not only was he talented on the gridiron, but Maye was a good player on the hardwood as well. He was a two-star basketball prospect, fielding offers from Miami, Florida State, Texas A&M and UCF. In fact, Maye continued to play basketball his senior year in high school despite accepting a football scholarship to Florida.

5. Crowded Secondary
Maye was the first Gators DB selected in the 2017 Draft, followed by Quincy Wilson (No. 46) and Jalen “Teez” Tabor (No. 53).

<h3><span><u><strong>Strengths</strong>//<em><font color="green">Needs Improvement</em></font></u></span></h3>

<strong><font color="green">Strengths</font></strong>

Marcus Maye is a ready-made safety frame with muscular build and long arms. He is really instinctive with above-average field vision and feel for the game. His eyes dart back and forth from quarterback to receiver. Correlates quarterback's eyes and actions to a corresponding route and gets the early jump. He plays with good pattern recognition from both man and zone. Credited with a pass breakup or interception on more than 21 percent of his targets as a starter. Has speed to burst from sideline to sideline. Rangy tackler with in-play endurance for extended chases across field. Welcomes physical aspects of position. Sheds blockers quickly. Showed improved patience and diligence as tackler. Trustworthy as last line of defense.

<strong><em><font color="green">Needs Improvement</em></font></strong>

Despite his instincts, credited with 10 touchdowns allowed during time at Florida. Maye is an inconsistent ball tracker. Has issues playing both ball and man down the field, and can lose feel with receiver. His tape shows some issues with hip tightness. His balance can be a little spotty and he'll fight his hips when forced to transition suddenly on combination routes. He is better coming downhill than playing on his heels. Missed final three games of senior season with broken arm.

<strong><font color="green">Analysis</font></strong>

Maye lived up to his four-star recruiting status in a spectacular junior season in 2015. Interchangeable safety with the instincts of a free safety and the physicality of a box player. Thrives as a downhill player and has the instincts and speed to operate effectively from both single-high and two-deep looks. Has the physical attributes and intelligence to step into a starter's role early on and will be a strong contributor on special teams.

<strong><font color="green">Position Ranking</font></strong>

Fourth best free safety in this draft.

<strong><font color="green">Projection</font></strong>

Projects fourth round, but overall lands in third round compensatory.

“Outstanding football player, great communicator,” Bowles told Allen after Day 2. “He sees the ball and goes to get it. He hunts the ball down. He’s a very good athlete and safety. He can play either spot and has a lot of versatility. It’s similar to some of the things Jamal has and they’re interchangeable.”

Thats my problem is the Jets could have taken Cook and I bet Maye would have been there in the 3rd.
