An idea to fix this OL now while groom for future

Yes we need to draft a LT, OC this draft but we don't have to reach for the presumably top tier products...

So what about a trade for a veteran left tackle, that has experience in how to block for Le'Veon Bell? That is if the plan is to keep the Bell Cow back... Steelers' Left Tackle Alejandro Villanueva entering final year of his contract, the Jets could offer an early day 3 pick for the 31 year old...

The idea with this trade would be to re-sign Kelvin Beachum but move him to Right Tackle along with Jonotthan Harrison at center the Jets will be primed to develop Edoga, and the two draft picks for at least one full season...

Prospects can be gotten in the 3rd round are Charlie Heck UNC (LT), and Matt Hennessy Temple (OC) both will need time to develop their core strength for this level but both are technical discipline type linemen which we want and need here...

LT - Alejandro Villanueva
LG -
OC - Jonotthan Harrison
RG -
RT - Kelvin Beachum

Filling the guard position would be key so re-signing Brandon Shell and Alex Lewis to be the guards could be an option... Can develop this years' reserve future options as possible in game rotation, or of course signing key veteran starters... The best option would be to draft two guards, but it depends who they would target and if we could acquire more draft capitol to draft a center, left tackle and two guards...

Do you really think the Steelers would entertain the idea of trading Villanueva for a day 3 pick ? Not saying that I doubt the possibility of that G, just asking the question. Besides being a pretty good LT he is one of their most respected team leaders. I could live with that trade and I believe Beachum would do well on the right side. I don't see Shell or Lewis being anything more than backups at those critical positions. We just need to do better there somehow. Harrison would be the last of the front five positions that I would concern myself with and would keep him there until our new center was ready and then use him in the rotation. That front five has to be bulletproof if we are going make any real strides towards being competitive next season on offense.

a 4th round pick for a 31 year old Left Tackle who is in the final year of his contract... They also drafted going on 2 drafts ago his heir apparent in Chukwuma Okorafor who they are really high on, for Chukwuma he will be entering his 3rd year and if they are going to attempt to move forward this would be a perfect opportunity to gain draft capitol and shed cap...

I really don't care about Shell nor Lewis but there are some good rotational options available in FA or we could keep Winters for his final year and hope he stays healthy... The void would be at LG then, which could be filled in FA...

Shoring up that offense I believe needs to be the primary concern for Joe this off season. I know we need help at corner and an edge rusher would be great as well but our defense if everyone was healthy can pretty much hold it's own as is if it becomes necessary in order to strengthen that "O" line.

some mentioned moving Edoga inside to guard he could help his development being next to someone like Alejandro Villanueva... then either keeping Brian Winters, or resigning Shell or Lewis to be the other guard could or should be in the plan...

by not using the first two picks to draft OL, then the Jets can go WR or Edge with the first then CB or (WR/Edge) with the 2nd pick... Like I said building smart can go a long way to building a successful organization... We all know RA is more than likely gone this off season/free agency so replacing should be the primary goal... Tajae Sharpe is a FA good replacement for RA... Laquon Treadwell also a FA good replacement for DT... Both will be 25 next year...

With being able to get two WRs in FA, then in the draft they can go Edge with our 1st pick and Corner with our 2nd leaving the door open to use both 3rd rounds on LT & Center... Knowing JD will look to make a few moves nothing big names but will acquire some more draft capitol possibly day three picks to bolster the depth on this roster...

LT - Alejandro Villanueva
LG - Chuma Edoga
OC - Jonotthan Harrison
RG - Brian Winters (Brandon Shell?)
RT - Kelvin Beachum

This wouldn't be a long term fix but for next year some continuity will go a long way to keep Darnold up right and continue his development... Same time we don't have to worry about hoping for the best with rookie prospects thrown into the frame early...

Backups
LT - Charlie Heck
LG - Alex Lewis? or FA
OC - Matt Hennessy
RG - FA (Isaac Asiata)
RT - FA (Halapoulivaati Vaitai)

I'll bite, except for Winters and Shell. They've both lost a step or two and get shoved around too often. That just won't work. Put your thinking cap on G and come up with a better solution at RG and I'll be on board. I think Edoga has potential so I'd give him a shot next to Villanueva.

what I would love to do, but think it is highly unlikely unless the Vikings think Brian Winters would help win now then would trade Winters to Minnesota for Dru Samia their this year draft pick RG... He has good potential out of Oklahoma but like I said highly unlikely...

the other way would go after St. John's Ben Bartch in the draft believe he is a 6th round pick -- played LT, but likely to be OG at this level...

just what if, could you imagine having 4 left tackles on our offensive line...

Alejandro Villanueva, Kelvin Beachum, Chuma Edoga and Ben Bartch talk about protecting Sam Darnold...

Cap space is not a concern, but finding the right pieces to make our roster stable and competitive is... Money can be moved or restructured to allow the right piece or pieces to be brought here...

I don't think none of these guys are gone or going to be moved: Le'Veon Bell, Jamal Adams, C.J. Mosley even tho they are with hefty contracts they are corner stones successful teams build with...

Joe Douglas did say he will listen to offers, but it is highly unlikely any team will blow him away with an exuberant offer...

OK, you've won me over if you can make this happen and you just made me cream my jeans with this statement " just what if, could you imagine having 4 left tackles on our offensive line..." .

A FA possibility at OG would be Brandon Scherff, but injuries the last two years scares me.

after the way he played against us, you still want him?

he is going to command at least $15 M per year annually for a guard that was sub par this season understandably the rest of the team sucked but so did he...

Anything with our Oline with Winters in it is a failure already.
J. Harrison needs to be upgraded immediately, watched him get tossed around the last few games, keep as a back up but C needs an upgrade going into 2020.

I am not as sure about replacing Harrison. I wasn't sold on him going into this year, but I like the chemistry he has with both the rest of the line and with Darnold. He needs some competence at guard next to him.

No more 30 plus year old plus FAs. Villanueva will be 32 to start the season and struggled with a shoulder injury this season. We watched that show over and over.
Beachum can not play Right Tackle. The Steelers tried that experiment twice, and it failed miserably both times.
Knowing how to block for Bell is of no use when the HC wants it done his way, because that's just how he always did it.....
Douglas is going to have to find Lineman who can do whatever the hell Gase is trying to do.... Hopefully they get to practice together in the off-season......

I agree with pretty much everything here.

It is going to take some draft capital here, some top draft capital. I still would like to see the Jets draft a legit top LT. Fortunately, even at 11, it is a deep OT draft.

They could upgrade RT in free agency, and perhaps LG.

Most of you are using the same logic as last year, "Oh man we got Osemole from Oakland, Instinct success". Its time to draft. I doubt if we get the top 3 tackles, but a top 3 WR , CB, is a strong possibility and work on the OL with 2nd and 3rd Rd picks

This may be exactly what has to happen. At 11 we have to go best value, BUT it has to be at one of 4 positions: OT; CB; WR; or Edge. In 2nd through 4th round it should be pretty much the same but adding interior OL, IMHO.

If it's me doing it, the only way I'm not taking a LT at #11 is if I have good reason to think the same guy will be available at our second round pick. We can't keep putting this off. Last year the excuse was 'It's a bad year for OL, we'll do it next year'. Perhaps the teams drafting before us will go 'best value' and ALL the LTs will be available to us; more likely they'll take care of business like we need to.
