Antonio Cromartie Signs with Jets

Don't get me wrong I am happy with Cro returning, but I do wonder what this says about how MacCagnan feels about this years CB crop? He must not think much of them? And the real question is, how will he do in the draft?

Because none is going to mean a damn thing unless they can start yielding decent talent through the draft. The Jets have not had a decent draft since 2007 IMO. Even then that yielded us only 4 players and as a result of having so many needs and so few picks we went 4-12 that season.

I'm also a little disappointed that MacCagnan hasn't picked up a FB. We are almost certain to have a young developing QB on this roster this season and the last time the Jets had a decent FB (Richardson) the Jets had an awesome running game that served as a huge crutch for a young Mark Sanchez.

We need that sort of team again so our new young QB can develop using some decent weapons.

IMO, this is a very weak CB draft. Others should chime in because we have some great college football minds on this board, but I do think Macs feeling about this CB draft class is reflected in these moves. I'm pretty sure anyone who paid attention to Mac and Bowles interviews at the combine aren't shocked by these moves. I'm very excited about all 3 signings.

Which we are way under right now.

We started off around $50MM under, after the Harvin cut and the Marshall trade. Looking at using about $25-30MM of that on Revis, Cromartie, and Skrine. The Harris resigning, the Carpenter signing. The Fitzpatrick addition is another small drop.

And there is still a need to extend Mo.

Looks like Dee Milliner will be No. 4 CB, if healthy. Bowles likes DBs. ARI had more snaps in dime package last season than any team. #nyj

Supe, do you think Bowles plans on moving Crow to FS, or is he locked in at Corner?

I know its just an opinion at this point, but what do you think?

well i'm glad he's back, but he's getting a lot more, in both years and dollars, then i expected. i'll wait till the details come out, since contracts tend to be inflated, so guaranteed amounts are important. hope they didn't overpay for a guy who's had some injury history and is on the wrong side of 30.

as to the CB draft class, we got mcdougle coming off his redshirt year and milliner coming off injuries and still a young pup. that's basically our CB draft class.

i like Ham's idea (echoed by others) about making him a FS, or at least having that possibility down the road. would be a good way to get use of him over a 4 year deal, if it goes that far

At this point, I would consider addressing everything remaining in the draft. That would mean a pass rusher, another QB, and another OT, perhaps a mid-round pick on a speedster RB.

Excellent spots to target obviously..would like a nice complimentary TE to AMARO..and maybe, even though Kerley is swift..a real burner to stretch the field..like the guy COnley from Georgia in 4th..

I know what they are doing, but what is the hold-up on the Wilkerson deal ?:hopelessness:

So long as it doesn't prevent us from extending Wilkerson I'm fine with it. I think we overpaid, but I'm okay with it unless and until I hear we don't have enough to make Wilkerson a fair offer that he will sign, and that guy has every right to expect a Darrelle Revis type mega deal.

Jets have to overpay. Not the best team to go to.

He's back too: Antonio Cromartie returns to Jets

They have agreed to terms with free agent Antonio Cromartie on a four-year deal, pending a physical, according to a source.

The contract reportedly is for $8 million a year and comes one day after the team re-signed superstar Darrelle Revis. Cromartie played for the Jets from 2010-13 and had 13 interceptions during that span.

Cromartie, who will be 31 next month, played alongside Revis from 2010 until the third game of the 2012 season, when Revis suffered a torn knee ligament that ended his first tour of duty with the Jets. Cromartie, at that time, took over the role of the No. 1 cornerback and had an excellent season.

He had a subpar, injury-plagued 2013 campaign and was let go by the Jets. He landed with the Cardinals, whose defensive coordinator at that time was current Jets head coach Todd Bowles. Cromartie, who reportedly chose the Jets over Dallas, had three interceptions and 10 passes defensed last season.

The Jets also signed former Browns cornerback Buster Skrine this week. Cromartie’s acquisition likely means that Skrine will play as the nickel back and slot corner, with Revis and Cromartie as the starting outside cornerbacks.

even if you don't agree with the money cro is getting i think part of it is good faith on big mac's part he knows no it is hard for a new GM to land the big fish. I believe he is showing the NFL if you play for me I will take care of you and he not only did this by giving ridouclous amounts of money to fa's but by taking care of his own first with the harris, purdum, and colon deals.

We should be players in the fa for a long time as long as we have money.

Not sure on exactly how much cap space the Jets have left, but I know it's less than what they went into the season with last year. #nyj

This also allows Antonio Allen to go back full time to his natural position at safety...in mix with Jarrett and Pryor...maybe Gilchrist?

Its criminal that we had to stunt this kids growth at Safety and move him to Corner, cause we were left so bare at Corner.

I just hope that experience didn't damage his confidence.

Damn You, Idzik
