Are the Jets preparing to trade Mekhi Becton?

Speculation has begun that with the recent group of Pri30 visits starting with North Carolina State's tackle Ikem Ekwonu opens the door that this regime with Robert Saleh and LaFleur are not technically sold on Mekhi and the future of the team. Trying to talk his value up right before the draft to strike a deal to trade the third year offensive tackle leading towards the draft, we will have to wait n see in the next coming weeks.

Word is the Jets are ecstatic with the nasty streak that Northern Iowa's Trevor Penning displayed at the Senior Bowl and believe between him and Ikem Ekwonu would be able to step in and fill the void for Becton if it is indeed their plan to trade him.

Talks about George Fant's contract extension have cooled down, but could be that wait n see approach to what they will do with Mekhi. Could be post a trade prior to the draft and offer Fant that lucrative extension, then head to the draft with the door open to take one of the said two tackles with one of the top two first round selections.

I don't picture Joe Douglas quitting on his first ever draft pick and all because of a year #2 injury (he was absolutely dominant as a Rookie).

If anything if the Jets were to draft Ikem Ekwonu it'll be George Fant who Joe Douglas isn't sold on (long term).

I would believe that Fant would be traded before Becton, but lets face it….. Becton would probably fetch a low first high second…… Fant probably wouldn’t fetch a second…….. Joe loves his wheelin and dealin…

Honestly, I have not been worried about Mekhi. If he had trouble maintaining weight, he'd be ideal at RT. Either way, I wouldn't spend an early draft pick on a tackle.
