Are the Jets still in the Trent Williams sweepstakes?

Trading for Trent Williams would be an ideal move, but signing George Fant and his desire to be the starting left tackle that would make Fant the right tackle which he is better suited...

Redskins want Jets second round pick for Trent Williams, worth it or not?

Jets reportedly not willing to give up our 2nd...

No way should they do a 2nd round pick. Thats too much for an old player. We need to get younger. Later 3rd maybe.

I vastly disagree with you about Fant being better suited at RT. Not based on the skill set I've seen.

Fant ranks as the 62nd Left Tackle
Fant ranks as the 7th Right Tackle

Sorry to disagree with you but the rankings are justified...

He is athletic, he just not suited to be on the blindside unless it is in a limited role...

Rankings aside, he is more athletic than he is physical. He has great feet and could neutralize a speed rush. On the other hand, I'm not convinced of his abilities as either a road grader or handling a bull rush.

I'd argue the Seahawks would have been misguided planning on him at RT, honestly.

What I think this does do, though, is not put Trent Williams in play. Rather, it frees up the Jets to choose any of the four tackles that make it to 11. If one of the truer RTs make it there, they can take him and go with Fant on the left. If someone like Thomas makes it to 11, they can draft him and either start him at RT for a year, then cut or trade Fant and slide Thomas to that side, or even start the year with Thomas at LT and Fant on the right.

from what I am hearing the Jets are prepared not to be in line to draft a tackle with the first pick...

they are looking at CB or EDGE at that spot, with the chance of trading down if it presents itself...

as for Fant they are giving him the chance to plug in as left tackle but no guarantees... at worst we get Sam killed and have to start all over from scratch looking for another franchise QB... I am looking at it like this he is athletic and in the right scheme maybe he can hold up, contract is team friendly so if he fails we only lost one year... And if I am right which I usually am the left tackle class next year will be ten times better than this year's is...

bringing back Alex Lewis opens the door for the team to be flexible in the draft... would expect going interior in rounds 2 - 4, grabbing a center definitely this year...

I have concerns about bringing in someone with limited NFL experience as a starting LT. That said, a drafted LT would put us in the same boat.

The McGovern signing solidifies the middle. Not sure if he makes Harrison a swing man, G to G for depth, or if Harrison stays at C and McGovern starts at G opposite Lewis.

In this case, from what I saw, and having played OL in college and coached it at the HS and prep school level, I like the physical skills from what I saw of Fant, and could see him making the conversion to starting LT pretty well. But it is a risk.
