Are we still a playoff contender?

If you asked me a day before the Jets headed to New England, I would have said yes but a lot has happened since then. The team is decimated by injuries, Bowles may not be the head coach I thought he was and the team as a whole may have been overrated. We have yet to beat a team above .500.

So do you think we have a chance?

We are now competing with Buffalo, Pitt and Oakland for two wild card spots. Could very well be that all three teams end up with the same record but not get in because of not having tie breakers

Technically yes, but I don't think we have any cohesiveness right now. Lose the next two and let's see what the kids have, petty included.

Hard to answer. We lose a close hard fought one to NE, which was frustrating as hell but understandable. Then the Raiders hand it to us and now the Bills. The Jets need to bounce back with like 3-4 straight wins or this ship will probably sail for this year. Problem is or one of them anyway is the key players aren't showing up. Marshall and Decker dropping clutch passes, especially Marshall. Fitz just can't carry a team like a elite QBs can and needs his skilled players to show up for him. If they don't, it puts more pressure on him and he cant handle it. Last, our defense is more hype then elite. They havent really shown up in the past couple of weeks. They look old and defeated.

We basically handed the game to the Bills with crappy coaching and stupid mistskes. We have played like crap 3 games in a row. No I don't think we are.

Ughhh
I'm still so bummed about Thursday nite and had no place to go to cry my sorrowful tears
Glad your back up, but I'm very disappointed .
All in all if we were asked would you take 5-4 in the beginning of the season we all would have probably signed up.
But after a 4-1 start and taking NE to the brink and then.........
Going into a free fall since we're still in it for a wild card
So,yeah we have a chance
Go Jets

Still a chance, definitely not a lock. The schedule is not too bad down the stretch. Team is down, but the season is usually a sine wave, anyway. They haven't really played well since the NE game, where they played pretty well. Hopefully, the extra half week will help straighten it out.

The league is so weak right now we may still make the run but time is running out. I haven't seen the NFL this bad in all my years of watching and I have been at this for 47 years. Awful, vanilla football is a by-product of free agency and NFL tweaking rules to accommodate offensive game plans...AKA lots of scoring. Parody.

As long as we are still above .500 and in the AFC, we are in the playoff picture. But we certainly have not played like a playoff team these past 3 weeks and any margin for error we built in the beginning of the season is gone.

Now, we find out what Todd Bowles is really like as a head coach. Facing his first crisis and going on the road for a game we should win.

This week Buffalo plays NE and we play Texans. In all probability we will be first wild card team next Monday.

The Jets are still a contender.

If Kellen Davis remembers that he is an eligible receiver, after knocking Decker off his route, we are talking about what a tough gutsy team the Jets are for coming back from 19 points down with all the injuries.

That's an unbelievable screwup on his part. Catch the ball and we win.

Yes, I agree here but I want us to play a complete 60 minutes

I think the question we should all ask ourselves is were they ever a PO team? I thought they were before the season but watching them play we are not there yet... we need LB in the worst way, we OL help, etc.

I have reevaluated and reset my expectations. remember we have a new HC who is learning on the job, we have a new DC and new D, new ST and ST coach although he should get his ass kicked for under performing team.... just saying.

I don't think so, but there's still a chance. But if the question was, are the Jets a Super Bowl contender, I would say no.

Offensively, we are very one dimensional; it relies far too heavily on Marshall making huge plays and winning all of his matchups, and even expecting him to catch the ball in double coverage, and because of that, it's streaky. He can't carry the entire load, even though he is so, so good. Defensively, we are good but not dominant, and not the level of defense that is needed to carry a team like this all the way. And the special teams has been horrendous. We can't afford to make so many mistakes in every game. And so far, not so good when it comes to the head coach. His bizarre clock management will certainly come back to haunt this team if he's ever coaching an important game.

This team looks dominant at times on defense. Offensively, we've regressed in the run blocking department. I see the LOS being won by the opposition far too often when we have the ball. Pass protection is solid, though. Fitzpatrick seems to know when to get the ball out. Both Decker and Marshall had killer drops last game. At crucial times in the game.

There's no excuse for getting inside the 5 and having a chance to finish a team, and then come up empty. That was demoralizing. You HAVE to finish there. We lost to a Bills team we really should've beaten. Devin Smith's fumble/return for the TD was just stupid.

I cannot really say what this team is right now. Even against Jacksonville, I thought they were shaky. If we can't beat the Texans and Dolphins coming up, we should probably start thinking about next year.

The answer is NO

The Jets are effectively 4 1/2 games behind the Patriots with 7 games left

Wild card, shmild card. Been there, done that. Playoffs mean you have a chance go to all the way and don't give me the rare times a WC team got there. I want to go to a home playoff game. Very little chance of that happening in my lifetime

To me i feel we are with the exception we make bone head mistake to gift wrap wins to the opposing teams, 4x's this year.

IMHO, if we can clean that up, we can hit a hot streak that will carry us deep into the playoffs. This Sunday should be the start of that run. Begin to play flawless, no matter who lines up over you, the time is now.

12-4 folks.

If the jets ever have a home playoff game, MetLife will be rocking. Hoping for that myself.

agreed... although i really do think the bills are fairly talented. in my opinion taylor has capitalized on his opportunity, and while he may not be the best qb there is, he forces teams to game plan around him. they're fairly dynamic with their running backs and watkins on offense. i did think the bills would win- and that's a shame they did, i think it's going to be very difficult to go into their building and win.

fitzpatrick has definitely exceeded my expectations, but you're right he needs help from receivers. hopefully the extra few days can help them get healthier and they can make these plays when called upon.
