Are You Concerned.

Are you concerned about our new QB about to join our team? Either Darnold, Rosen, Allen or Mayfield will have to convince Bowles they are ready to play. Will Bowles treat our new QB like he treated Hackenberg? Will we be stuck with McCown for 2 more years because Bowles refuses to play them?

My biggest concern is whether the line can protect him. The only thing worse than having no franchise QB is finally finding one, only to have him sustain a career-ending injury due to lack of protection.

Not concerned at all. If the Rookie QB is ready to play year 1 Bowles will start him, this year's class only has 1 QB likely to start as a rookie, Rosen.
Darnold,Allen and Mayfield all need work.
Hack was a bad pick. Bowles gave him every opportunity to win the job. Let's hope Mac makes the right choice this time.

The biggest mistake Mac made this off season was to give Bowles back his veteran crutch, McCown, his new Fitzpatrick.

Knowing how Bowles operates when it comes to QB's, IMO that was a mistake.

I would have taken away his crutch, especially knowing we are drafting a QB in RD 1 (#3 Overall)

Not for nothing ...... if Penn State’s Saquon Barkley is still on the Board at # 3 .... I think we will take him ... !! He is that good.

Bowles would rather be disemboweled with a rusty can opener than play a rookie over a veteran.
That said, I also have a concern whether the line will be able to protect whoever is the QB.

Unfortunately McCown was a necessity. Our new QB will not be ready to start, at least early in the season. We don't know if Bridgewater will be ready either. Someone has to start. Even IF our new QB was ready to start, which is highly unlikely, the "O" line is not good enough yet to protect him. We still need pieces. A really good left tackle would certainly help. Like Jets Fan RI pointed out, we don't want him destroyed before he ever gets a chance to be good. When he's ready, like Tony said, he will play him. His job security is liked to us having a franchise QB real soon.

Second enlistment in 1950?
WOW!
Thank you for serving. I was in 1965-67. (Army, of course)

I was just kidding about the time line, I served 1960 through 1971, Navy of course, but, 3 of my four brothers were army. The 4th and youngest was Navy and served brother duty with me for two years. Thank you for your service as well and thank you Butterscotch for keeping those seats warm for us.

I don't think left tackle is the biggest priority on our line. Beachum has a couple of seasons left and he is our best o lineman. Left Guard Should be our immediate priority. Carpenter is our weakest link, especially with Dennison's blocking scheme. Of course of a promising LT is available, you run to the podium.
I really do expect to see the o line addressed in rounds 3 or 4. Preferably 3 unless an OLB is available and graded higher.

The problem is with Sanchez and Geno, they saw the field before they earned it. Now with Petty and Hack, they had to earn their way onto the field, and they failed to do that.

McCown and Bridgewater are almost certainly here for only one year(2018) - the beauty of this situation is whichever QB is picked - will not see the field till 2019. Hence, it seems for purposes of this bridge year -The present OL(if healthy) while not elite - certainly seems at least adequate or middle of pack by NFL standards

Pete Carroll was dead right about Sanchez - saying initially/reflexively that he needed another year in college(as Sanchez was about to declare and immediately there afterwards).

As for Geno, among several pre-draft whispers - were sentiments that Geno did not perform consistently well in cold weather games - while this was not an absolute and exceptions certainly exist - if you look back on his starting tenure with the Jets his best & most complete games for the most part were in a dome(Atlanta) or warm weather sites(Miami). SD might be a good spot for him provided he ever sees the field, but it seems he was a natural fit for Atlanta or NO(domes & lots of warm weather games).

Hackenburg was a roll of the dice - the hope, of course, was his mechanics could be altered to align with his physical stature so as to replicate his freshman year at Penn State. It seems logical that in light of the fragility of McCown & Bridgewater - either Petty of Hackenburg could be brought to camp regardless of taking a QB with the 3rd pick. So Hackenburg's JET book may not be completely closed. It would not be shocking if the team carried 4 QBs this season although much depends on Bridgewater.

Relative to the OL and any other holes on the team this coming year - the Jets are going to once again have an enormous amount of cap space next year - so when the 1st round QB pick doesw eventually take the field next year - there will be time to repair/improve the OL or for that matter elsewhere.

Thus - at this moment in time - it seems the 3rd pick in the draft will be used on a defensive end. It would not be surprising though if they did take an Off Tackle with the 4th ROUND
