Avengers: Age of Ultron

I had the chance to watch the sequel to the highly successful Avengers today with a few friends and I had some thoughts on it. As an avid comic book fan, I've always been weary when movie studios attempted to adapt these comics into film, that is until Marvel Studios took control of their properties and started their cinematic universe. Marvel clearly cares about their franchises and it helps that they are owned by Disney who has the capitol to bring justice to their properties. I think what separates these films from the other franchises is that the writers don't stray from the source material. Doing this makes comic book enthusiasts and fanboys like myself happy. With that said, Avengers: Age of Ultron does NOT disappoint. It's projected earnings for its three-day opening weekend is roughly 187.7 million dollars which does not surpass its predecessor but in my opinion that's still pretty good for a sequel.

Sequels rarely ever live it up the original but I think Age of Ultron does a good job trying. It goes without saying that the action scenes were amazing but what I really thought stood out from the first one was all the character development. I felt like this movie helped me better understand what drives each and every hero more so than the first and even to an extent their own solo films. I also felt that each character had their chance to shine which is pretty hard task to achieve with an ensemble cast this big. I liked how Elizabeth Olsen's character was used to reveal the character's inner fears which allowed the audience a chance to connect with them on level that they could not fully do in previous films.

Without giving too much away, what I didn't like about this one was what they reduced Ultron to. If anyone has read the comics, Ultron was one of the most difficult villains for the avengers to defeat, which I don't think was translated well on film. I felt that Ultron was built up so much throughout the film that his eventual defeat for me at least wasn't satisfying. With that said, I find it hard to find more things that I didn't like about the film and even though it dragged at times, it was still worth the money I spent to watch it.

If anything, Marvel continues to prove they are the studio to beat when it comes to comic book films. They always do a great job building up towards their future films, which was evident in the film's final scene and mid-credit scene. I highly recommend going to watch this, even if you you aren't a big comic book fan like myself.

Anyone else seen it? What were your thought on it?
