Bad news: No serious QB injuries this week -- Good News: Bortles was awful

I do not believe the Jaguars feel good about their QB position, and this week, the only preseason game where the starters play for a half or more, so its really the first real dress rehearsal for the regular season and Bortles was awful, not exactly inspiring confidence in the Jaguars coaching staff.

That said, I still believe a straight swap of Teddy for Fowler (who is now a backup in Jax) makes perfect sense for both teams.

Bridgewater is a backup for us, but probably winds up starting for the Jaguars, and Fowler is a backup for the Jags, but definitely starts for the Jets.

Both are in the final years of their contracts, however if both teams decide to keep them we can sign them to extensions or use the franchise tag.

Lastly, the Jaguars are definitely a championship caliber team, all they lack is a QB they can depend on.

This trade makes sense on so many levels, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens this week.

Need more for Bridgewater... Especially if he takes them to the playoffs... Dante and pick to be determined by the season he has and Jags have

Here’s the thing about Bortles...

So the Jags won the division last year, then got all the way to the AFC Championship game before giving up two 4th quarter TD’s to NE to lose a game they should’ve won. That stellar Jag defense folded under pressure. That wasn’t Bortles fault.

My point is, as much criticism as that guy gets, I don’t think the team is nearly as down on him as others seem to be. Not yet anyway. So I think a Bridgewater swap is unlikely at this stage in the season. They’re riding with Bortles, whether we think they should or not.

The thing is, they don't even have a reliable, proven backup in Cody Kessler. Even if they think this is the year Bortles starts to play like a starting QB, if he doesn't, or gets injured, they waste that D another year.

Jags fans are going to say they need a bigger return than a "backup" QB, especially with having signed Bortles to big money.

Right. Some guys play great all season then can't win in the clutch. Bortles, so far at least has played well in the playoffs and should have beaten the cheatahs .So Jacksonville may have more faith in him then others in the outside looking in. Plus his numbers are good.

There are 2 teams in the afc that most likely will be in the playoffs with the cheatahs. The Steelers never beat Belichick so for me the only hope is Jacksonville and since Coughlin is there I will hold out some hope. Especially since Jacksonville should have beaten them last year. If sending Bridgewater there helps them beat the cheatahs, I'm all for it

The Jags aren't the only QB needy team after just 3 preseason games. The Raiders are also in need of a QB because it is rumored that Gruden doesn't think their back up is currently on their roster. I think Teddy is a starter, not a back up and that's what he wants to do, but. I think he could win the starting job there, if not this season, then next. I'm not sure the Jets would let him go without a big deal, especially because they just signed another QB to our roster.

Add Denver and the Eagles to that list. Denver is definitely in the market and for the Eagles, Foles has not looked good and Went still has not been cleared for contact.

Foles had a bad game in the preseason, and all of a sudden everyone forgets about him winning the SB MVP back in February.

Foles and Wentz are the QB’s in Philadelphia.

Denver could be in on Bridgewater at some point, though.

I was very busy this weekend, but I confess as i watched some bits of sports I did look at the NFL screen crawl to see if any QB got hurt......

Foles had 3 bad games and struggled through out camp . I have not forgotten his Super Bowl performance but he's been awful.
Wentz is the Eagles future, but he is still not cleared for contact, with the season opener 9 days away. If Wentz has any setback, the Eagles will be looking for a starting QB to open the season.

I don’t think the Eagles are going to make a rash decision regarding Foles. Struggling in the preseason, playing with a mix of second stringers and starters, shouldn’t mean as much as what he’s done on the big stage. Foles is a better option than any QB who’d become available next week.

Foles is still a Jag with with an avg of 6 starts a season over his career. He has a history of playing a great game and following it up with a terrible game. There is a reason the Eagles we're his 4th team in 4 seasons. He had a great game, actually a great postseason but he is Fitz,McCown level as a starting QB. He's never been a good QB or a consistent QB. If Went looks like he will be ready to go, the Eagles will stand Pat, but I don't believe they will ride with Foles for a season if Went has a setback.

Hundley on the trade move to Seattle.....will other QB moves follow?

Rapoport reporting that the backup QB market is heating up. The Cardinals want to trade Mike Glennon, the Saints want to move Tom Savage, and the Steelers trying to trade Josh Dobbs.

None of these guys belong in the same conversation as Teddy Bridgewater.

Darnold is a rookie - so its not out of the question he could struggle, and/or hit a wall, and/or be injured - McCown(who is 38) has been injury prone virtually ANYTIME in his long career that he has seen extended playing time, and - Bridgewater is returning from a catastrophic injury in which his former head coach stated publicly that it was unlikely in their minds he would ever play again(insinuating as well that he may be able to hold up for a season)..... on top of that - only 12 of 32 - 2017 opening day starting QBs played all 16 regular season games.

one other point - McCown's contract virtually assures he can't/won't be traded
