Bad special teams under Bowles...

I saw this on another Jet fan site and thought it beared repeating...


Well ... in the 30 games under Bowles, the Jets have now given up NINE touchdowns on Special Teams.

1 Kickoff Return (Dolphins)
2 Punt Returns (Eagles, Giants)
2 Blocked Punts (Redskins, Dolphins)
1 Snap through the punter's hands, recovered in the end zone (Ravens)
3 Fumbled Kickoff Retuns that were returned for TD's (Bills, Bills, Chiefs)

That number isn't just bad ... it's incomprehensible. I'd be surprised if there's another team in the league that has given up even half that amount over the past 30 games. I bet the Patriots haven't given up nine ST touchdowns in the past nine years. And I'm not even counting the assorted fumbles, muffs, blocked FG's, long returns, and 20 yard punts that lead directly to touchdowns. There's plenty to fix on this team, but this needs to be near the top of the list.

So the reality is our ST has been horrible since Mike Westhoff retired, so the issue predates him. We have been putrid on ST for way too long now.

Absolutely nothing as far as I am concerned. But I really thought this needed to be mentioned? Everyone is harping on the offense, defense, and coaching, but the ST should be one of the very simplest things for Bowles to fix. He already got to fire the first gu6y he had and now, this time. he has HIS guy as ST coordinator and yet the ST is just as bad as they were last year. Bowles has had his chance for two seasons now and yet the ST is still horrible. There is clearly NO excuse for how truly bad this team is????

Our special teams was pretty bad under Westoff's last few years. It's probably more attributed to the horrible depth this team has. We need to build everything back up. It will take time.

He's very good with the media, his bright and lively post game interviews makes me wonder why this team isn't playing better for him.

If firing people turned franchises around, their would be a lot more teams winning super bowls. It's easy to blame the coach, but what would your expectations be with any other coach?

+1 And apparently NO ONE else on this site seems to get that? Westhoff was a LEGEND with the Jets. His ST's spoke for themselves. Ironically, he had one bad year in his last year on the job and rather than blame the guy who was afforded the opportunity to make changes, they'd rather blame that has been retired. Pathetic really....

Well, they treat this thing like it's no big deal?! Please tell me, and I hope everyone reads this... Is there a sinle phase of the Jets football team that is playing well? Now, remind me who is responsible to get the team playing well?

if bowles gets a third year with us, i would hope many jets fans here & elsewhere will ask themselves this.. why aside from continuity, bringing him back makes any damn sense??

We need a good owner........We need a good GM.......We may need a coach......but the last two need more time........If I were to fire anyone I would fire the GM.....but not yet

it's almost like some here believe the guy is destined to be a good/really good coach here, if only given a few more years to prove it..

look, anything is possible but i'll say this much..

if after the jets can him, he ends up having great success somewhere down the line as a HC for another organization?? well, how wonderful that would be for him & them!!

but for those who believe that kind of future success wouldn't require bowles to completely reinvent himself into a blend of all of his coaching mentors are absolutely kidding themselves, as far as i'm concerned..

the guy is stubborn as a mule & strikes me as someone arrogant enough to already think he's got it all figured out any damn way..

don't believe me?? perhaps you should watch/listen to literally any of his pressers..

& if you really want to test your patience, i would suggest checking out his conference calls instead..

the guy sounds like he couldn't be bothered enough to get his ass out of bed for those!!
