Becton at RT

There has been chatter about Becton playing RT and there has also been chatter that this might not be agreeable to Becton due to the pay difference between LT and RT. However, I don't think that is a huge issue. Per Jake Asman, the top 5 LTs average about 21 mil per season while the top 5 RTs average about 18 mil per season. This by itself is not a huge difference albeit a significant one. However, there's other things to consider. What kind of LT would Becton be for the next 5 seasons? Honestly, if he cannot get his weight to 340 lbs, I think he'd lack longevity at the position and thus earn less and not be in the top 5. But at RT, he can be a perennial pro-bowler.

If you watch that 2020 youtube highlight reel of Becton, the contributor says that the Jets should run a left-handed offense...which is equivalent to saying that Becton should play RT. Also, I don't Fant would be a great fit at RT. But I digress, I don't think that playing RT would impact Becton's earnings much if at all.

What are your thoughts?

my thoughts are douglas gives fant an extension with the coaching staff already having him penciled in at LT..

becton is playing RT & they are not happy about how easy a decision he made that for them in early july..

Douglas and Saleh may not be happy now. But if Becton is destroying the LDE in week 1, they'll feel much better about it.

I don't know...just talking. But I think the roster is utilized best with Becton at RT.

I don’t think Becton will be happy about it, but I think he’s moving to RT. Fant’s 2021 season at LT was impressive. He is a more natural fit at LT than RT because of his athleticism. I’ve come around on the idea of moving Becton to RT because of his run blocking. I think Becton would be an awesome RT. Saleh isn’t saying it publicly, but I think that decision has been made.

Becton and AVT opening holes on the right side of the line for Breece Hall and Michael Carter could be a beautiful thing.

Heard Saleh and company aren’t happy with Becton and his weight. Rumor were he was pushing 400 at mini camp. If he isn’t happy at RT, then he needs to get serious and lose some weight. IMO, he doesn’t deserve a shot at LT if he isn’t disciplined enough to come in in shape. At this point, I would look to Reiff as a signing candidate and trade Becton for whatever you can get. It seems pretty obvious that he either doesn’t want to be here, or football is not a top priority. Now I realize that he may have put on some muscle at Duke’s training facility, but weight wise he may be the same as he was at seasons end, which isn’t a ringing endorsement for Duke ….. and severely limits Bectons chances to be a fixture at OL week in and week out

I agree with your assessment. An average LT vs a dominate RT….. I would think the salaries may favor the RT

I would like to see him at Brick's playing weight (about 330 lbs) but that'll probably never happen. Tryon Smith he isn't. But I would be thrilled if he becomes a dominant RT.
