They have to eat all his guaranteed money this season if they release him. Being the Final league year, there is no post June 1st designation this upcoming season.

March 20: 2020 base salary becomes fully guaranteed on 3rd day of league year, they can release him prior to that date which I expect them too and his base salary $11 M off the books, the team will eat the $12 M in total guarantees which can be spread over the last 3 years of his length of contract...

It's the final league year which has an unique set of rules.
We will have a whole new CBA come late 2021 after a lost season with a new set of rules to decipher.
