Biggest Concerns

Biggest concerns going in to the season;

Right side of the line
With or without Giacomini the right side of the line is a big concern. Winters stinks, plain and simple. There's not a big drop-off between Giacomini and Ijalani/Qvale. The only saving grace here is that Fitz will continue to fire the ball out within three seconds. However, the running game will suffer because of the OL and there will be too much reliance on the passing game. The Idzik O's (Winters, Giacomini, Dozier, William Campbell (who?)) are a nightmare and were a complete waste of resources.

Linebackers
Yes, there's a lot of young talent here but the operative word is YOUNG. It will be mid-season at the earliest before the youngsters will settle in and understand what they're doing. Hopefully that won't be too late. Expect a lot of hurry-up offenses to confuse Lee and Jenkins even more. Was hoping to hear (and see) more of Bruce Carter and Freddie Bishop as hold the fort guys but not sure what we have there.

Corners
The Idzik M's (Milliner/McDougle) are a disaster. They won't be in green for long. Skrine and Williams likely won't hold up well getting picked on repeatedly. Burris may be in the rotation sooner than expected but he is a rookie.

It's a little disappointing that second year pro Jarvis Harrison has been unseen in camp and the preseason. Shell should not play this year but it's hard to think he can be much worse than what they have now.

The second round pick of Hackenberg could have been used to plug one of these holes.

I also share your concerns on the Oline. We have almost completely looked the other way in the draft the last number of years and it shows at the very least in depth. I also agree Winters is a waste. Whenever there is a jail break you can bet it's Winters being beat.

My other concern is just the defense in general. While I think they will be good I still haven't seen them put that consistent pressure on the QB that would raise them to great. I'm hopeful all the hype I'm hearing about Leo and Sheldon now playing to get his money makes me optimistic. However, we need to get a pass rush from our current front four without our linebackers pitching in. We've invested three first rounders on it and it's time they produce. If they do the back seven will not be a problem.

Got to wonder how much of a 4-3 will be utilized especially early in the season. I'm concerned about the young linebackers being able to set the edge. I think Mo and Sheldon/Leo as true defensive ends would help that out a lot.

I don't think Bowles will show much of anything against the Giants but he will do something to improve on 39 teams sacks from last year.

I am not as concerned about setting the edge as I am about running through the A and B gaps. With Snacks gone I'm a little worried.

Today at practice the D-line mauled the O-line.

Concerning that the D-line hasn't been effective against the Jags or Skins, but are killing the Jets O-line.

Just as a side note, both smith and Hack were heckled by the fans today at practice today

Hackenberg got a lot of reps today. He was awful.

All of the QB's were bad today, but Hack was very bad
have the 2nd round misfortunes continued for us??

but if we found fitzpatrick's replacement (petty in the 4th) & 3 keepers at WR only spending a 7th on peake, with anderson & j. marshall being UDFAs, i'm good.....

I wasn't a big fan of the Hack pick, but...................Kid is a multi year project. This is his first real reps. WE'll probably see him against the Giants, if not for sure against the Birds. Don't expect much, but certainly no need to panic. If he's still doing this in 2018 then he's a bust. For now he's a big project.

Actually, same goes for Petty. he's a gun slinger who is on a role. Like every gun slinger there will be picks. I just hope every one is not going to go crazy when they come.

Think Petty will be a good QB. Think Hack has a chance to be a good QB. It will take some time for both to mature. Petty seems to have made a giant leap, they'll be a sag in-between.

so long as maccagnan ends up hitting with either (or maybe both) petty &/or hackenberg, no one will question where either was picked in the draft..

no one trying to maintain a level of objectivity at least.....

I seem to recall many of us wondering how on earth Macc was going to get young and unproved WR through waivers last year. Turns out they were all cut and no one picked them up. I guarantee that EVERY team's fans think they have so much talent right now they just don't know who they will cut.

I just hope Macc is keeping a close eye on other team's OL, either a youngster or an overpriced vet, because the current OL could derail this season.

Winters stinks for sure, but RT is probably even worse. No Breno and he isn't a very good player to begin with, but certainly better than the two scrubs (Ijalana, Qvale) that are sharing reps at RT. All around, this will cause the ultimate failure of the OL this season IMO. It is inexcusable that Mac chose to ignore the teams biggest need.

Skrine got torched last Friday. Marcus Williams did not look good. As much as I thought CB was not a problem. I guess Elias is right. Unless guys like Skrine and Williams start to play better this defense will be in deep trouble.

Darron Lee played like sh*t Friday. On the 4th down play, Lee got tossed like dirty laundry by Brandon Scherff. He also miss his assignment covering Maurice Harris and allowed Harris to blow right by him on another play. Like I said already, Lee's success or failure is 100% dependent on Todd Bowles ability to scheme and the DL's ability to keep him clean. The very second an OL engages him he is DONE.

Jordan Jenkins, however, I thought looked pretty good. I thought he over pursued a few times, but that can be cleaned up. He has very good size and surprisingly fast given his size.

But honestly, I believe the above issues will ultimately cause the Jets ruination this season. OL will be a serious anchor for the offense as a whole.

LB, CB will both cause problems for the defense. This defense will not be top 10 in points allowed this season. Their 4th overall ranking will slide into the teen's. Points allowed will have the defense about 20th in the league.

The Jets turnover ratio will be negative overall..
