  • Reports say RB Bilal Powell is expected to be the lead back in 2017 for the New York Jets.
  • Powell ranked eighth among 62 qualified running backs last season with a 79.4 overall grade while he was sixth with a 78.3 running grade. Meanwhile, teammate Matt Forte ranked 22nd with an overall grade of 73.0 and 18th with a run grade of 71.7.
  • From Week 10 forward, Powell posted a 70.6 elusiveness rating, which was third best among 48 qualifying running backs during that time. He also forced nine missed tackles on his 29 receptions which was one more than Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell did on his 39 receptions over that stretch.
  • Powell averaged 3.24 yards after contact per attempt from Week 10 on which was fourth best among qualifying running backs. Despite 50 fewer carries than Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott, Powell forced four more missed tackles during that time period.
  • The Jets used Powell heavily in the passing game as he ran 153 routes from Week 10 on, fifth most among all running backs.

I know you're being sarcastic with this post, but I would argue exactly this post about Powell. I like Powell. I do NOT believe he is a feature back. If we start using him like that, we'll ruin in a big hurry.............

well, we will have to agree to disagree then......

that's not me saying he can be a feature back, my point remains at this point in his career, what the hell would be the downside in finding out one way or the other??

Well, I just don't want to see him get over utilized running behind a poor OL? Powell really is a great player and I hope to see his role get expanded, but to see get 30 carries a game I believe would kill him...........

i don't want powell to get 30 carries a game either.. hell, with the size, strength & speed of today's defenses, 30 carries a game is almost inhumane.. but being the feature back should be his job to lose.. my thoughts anyway..

Much as it pains me to agree with you, Maine... :) I agree with you. Powell does so many things well and can be hugely valuable to the offense. But if he is over-utilized, it will reduce his effectiveness and increase injury risk. I do think that the kid we drafted, McGuire, will contribute a good deal. His highlights show real ability and elusiveness.

Agreed. I think McGuire (at least early on, like this season) could have a huge effect on special teams. And really that's something I think most are overlooking with this team? The surest way to make an otherwise bad team look better than it really is to make big plays on special teams. I think the talent disparity at least on ST's has been greatly improved.........
