C.J. Mosley has been keeping himself in shape as he gets set to make his return in 2021.

Mosley opted out of the 2020 NFL season because of COVID-19 but will return to the Jets next season. Mosley’s fellow linebacker, Blake Cashman, was asked on Instagram on Wednesday if he has spoken to Mosley recently and gave an encouraging response.

“We were working out this week,” Cashman said on his Instagram story. “He’s looking better and more ready than ever.”

That is certainly good news given Mosley’s limited action the last two years. Prior to sitting out this past season, Mosley only played in two games for the Jets in 2019, his first year with the team. He missed the majority of the 2019 season due to a groin injury.

Getting Mosley back to the level he was at before the injury would be a big boost for the Jets defense. Before signing with the Jets, Mosley spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and a four-time Second-team All-Pro.

The Jets didn’t have much up the middle besides Neville Hewitt in 2020. After Avery Williamson was traded to the Steelers, the Jets decided to start Harvey Langi at right inside linebacker. He was a serviceable replacement, but he’s not a long-term answer at the position.

The hope for Mosley is that he continues to put in the work this offseason and returns to his old self in 2021. That won’t be an easy task, but it’s what the Jets need at the linebacker position.

I know that Mosley is an above average 34 ILBer, but since we're switching to a 43, does he still fit sideline to sideline

4-3 should be no problem for a player of his caliber. If he's still in shape physically, and it sounds like he is, he should be able to get into football shape while working out and learning the new system along with the rest of the team.
