Bowles and What to do -

Ok, first off anyone that knows me through the years of posting on all the different boars we have been through knows I am a pretty positive guy... I don't buy into the Same old Jets mentality, and I have been a fan for 30+ years. So I can't believe I am going to put this out on the board; but here goes.

Bowles has to go. Say what you want about Rex but at their bare minimum he made in game adjustments especailly at the half and the Defense saw what the offense did and 90% of the time was able to improve their play in the 2nd half.... Bowles lives and dies by his game plan and neve makes an adjustment..... We criticized Rex for never getting involved in the offense but Bowles is getting a pass here; why?

Now hear me out I like what Gailey does with the offense but their have been times last year and this year you expect the the HC to step in and make the OC change some of the Playcalling.... The lack of running the ball in the redzone in the Cincy game and in the Cheifs game this year are the examples of that...

His even demeanor is fine when you are winning but if you aren't holding people accountable when losing it comes across as a lack of knowing what is going on around you...

Now here are the things that Bowles needs to change to try and right this ship

1 - Stop using David Harris in any situation that involves him in coverage STOP!!... He should be in to stop the run and disguised blitzes... that's it.

2 - Go back to putting Pryor at the line of scrimmage and bum and run coverage on backs and TE's.... You are using him like Rex did his rookie year and he was awful....

3 - Get into the head of Fitz and end the INT party he is having... YOu worked with Parcells. He got in Vinny's head....

4 - Figure out how to make in game adjustments... That's your job....

5 - Stop putting Sheldon at OLB . Didn't work last year not working this year even if it is just situational

6 - go back to the 3-4 with McClenndon and Simon at NT rotate around Williams-Richardson and MO

7 - Get back to bump and run coverage... We are not getting beat deep on man to man.... We are getting beat cause the safety play has been awful. Get Pryor at the line of scrimmage... Leave Gilchrist in CF as 1 deep high safety... We are not built to play man under zone coverage...

Bowles is known to his players strengths.. He has done a great Job with Darron Lee but that's it... I'm done... I feel like he has to go now!!

FIRE Gailey who runs the same plays over & over & shows Seattles Defense its a run or Pass play. Same garbage by him. Also Defense in back field was HORRIBLE! Bothered me was no holding calls against Seattle mugging our front four holding Williams many times spinning him around & no call

Lounap, you are one of the more levelheaded posters. I will backup that statement.

You hit on some key points. I don't know what the answer is on defense for covering TE's but Bowles and Rodgers need to figure it out, like, right now. Bowles is getting a lesson on in-game adjustments, and both he and Gailey need to wake up and ADJUST! When our offense becomes one dimensional, it's INT time baby. We haven't been able to get the ground game going, and that's directly linked to the inefficiency.

I'm willing to give Bowles the remainder of the year, but he better get this stuff figured out. We have the talent on both sides of the ball to be better than this. IMO.

Ok.....lets take this into perspective. What do the consistently good teams ( Pats...Packers....Steelers...Seahawks... Carolina Bengals....Ravens...Saints to an extent etc) have in common? They don't change coaches every other year. Sometimes these teams have an off year....but they don't panic and start canning everyone. And what do the shit teams ( Browns, Fins, Raiders, (until this year), Niners, Jacksonville etc do??? They can everyone every other year. You cannot win without consistency....period. New coaches mean new schemes, and roster turnover because the existing players don't fit. Give Bowles a little time. He is a young coach and he is still learning.

I usually don't ask for the HC to be fired so quickly but I do not see any progress at all... I can be patient... And give Bowles time... I just haven't felt like this since Kotite...

Again it really isn't fair to punish the head coach for the lack of execution by the players...

Defensively this team is still trying to find their game, and plenty of games left to rebound... We have issues in the secondary and it is basically communication, that have led to blown coverage... The linebackers have been good not great but they have been gelling into a solid group... The defensive line are doing their jobs and collapsing the pocket but if the secondary can not come together to solidify the secondary will continue to hiccup the defensive front seven on their ability to get pressure on the quarterback and force miscues that can lead to turnovers... From Revis to Gilchrist/Pryor they need to find who is going to pull this unit together and do it soon...

Offensively their approach every game is muddled, who is the starting RB? What is their approach in the passing attack because they click on some passes and then they fizzle out or get cute when it is time to make a play and does not all fall on Fitzpatrick because there are times we see Brandon Marshall either seem lost or disinterested to go after the ball... Forte should be more of a compliment to Powell who is more versatile for this offensive game plan because he is able to do a little bit of everything... Forte can be that situational option and/or emergency sub, spread him out as receiver, etc...

The main thing is this team still has fight left even at 1-3... They know they need to clean up their mistakes and believe in their head coach...

somebody better figure this out quickly because right now they look like Keystone cops in the secondary.

Adjustments have been made - they're not working either. He switched from Lee to Williams on Jimmy Graham.....tried Shellie at OLB. Sent CB blitzes. He's varied his maneuvers, but the Safeties are INVISIBLE. All season they have made zero impact/plays. Guys are running free back there and that's not on the CBs.

I'm afraid Pryor is looking like a bust. He couldn't cover me (almost 50 yrs old).

THE biggest adjustment that the OC nees to make is to realize that EVERYBODY knows you love the back shoulder pass. That pass has scared me since last season - it has huge trust factors and is a blind throw for the QB..........over reliance on that pass is getting them in trouble. What is missing is what we saw in the BUF game - it was haymaker after haymaker. Gotta keep throwing them to get the attention of the defense and obviously Fitz has to hit on one of them. They are getting predictable - slants to the inside (LBs are jumping into the patterns) and back shoulders to the outside (hobbled Marshall not creating enough separation).

I don't feel the offense is in trouble, but the defense is putting the offense in spots that they are not built to succeed in. You can't make Fitz throw it 30+ times each week.

Bowles should definitely be fired at the end of this season IMO, but I strongly doubt he does. I figure the axe comes down on Bowles at the end of 2017.

The fact is, he does not make any in game adjustments, he has serious troubles motivating the team on a weekly basis, and he insists on the secondary playing zone when they are very clearly more cut out for bump and run. These are just a few among many complaints I have about him. He leaves a lot to be desired about a HC.

What's clearly the worst is that if I am ranking him within the annals of Jets lore, I would put right between Al Groh and Herm Edwards in regards to coaching skill. He plays not to lose, and if there's anything I HATE, it is HC's that coach scared...........

I don't think people realize how behind the times Gailey is. So predictable. I can guess the play at the line about 50% with damn good accuracy. If a rube like me can do that, what is a good DC picking up on?

I have concerns about Bowles, as well, but I would argue that we need to show some level of stability. He has made mistakes, but he has also shown some positive signs. A bit of patience, and the experience to grow into the job a little, might be worth it.

Both the Jets and the Asterisks gave up on Carroll. The Browns gave up on Belicheat. When it comes to coaches, I would urge more patience than Jets fans usually show. When it comes to GMs, I would urge for FAR more patience than Jets fans usually show.

Look at how relatively stable teams like the Steelers and the Asterisks have been. They're both successful, and much of it is through stability. Not many teams with a revolving door policy succeed.

I agree.... and I posted that from an extremely emotional standpoint... I am analyzing a lot the last few days looking at all 3 losses and sadly they are all games if we played mistake free we easily win... Cincy Missed Kicks, Seattle and KC all on Fitz.... So you are right.... We need to eliminate mistakes... that's what good teams do.... we can nit pick the secondary, the Offensive scheme etc... but the bottom line is, if the players on the field play mistake free we are 4-0,3-1 at worst. And Fitz doesn't have to be completely mistake free but 9 ints in 2 games is no bueno...

Call me crazy but if Fitz plays like he did in Cincy, which was avg, we win more games then we lose...

Fitz is getting most of the criticism, but the secondary was at least equally to blame for Seattle. If I see one more busted coverage in this secondary, with a WR running free for a huge TD catch, I'm going to lose my mind. It's atrocious. We're getting burned on the big play.

They are playing like they don't give a damn; half-hearted efforts on the field. I put this on the coach. Also, no consequences for mistakes - Bellicheat would have benched half this team by now...
