Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Nick Mangold skipping Jets OTAs

Ok so how do the Jets get to the 18 million mark that Fitzpatrick supposedly is seeking?
I don't think cutting all the undrafted free agents is going to get them there.
Restructuring is kicking the can down the road.
Pay cuts, D'brickashaw didn't like that idea either.
Would Cromartie be considered the worst CB on this team right now? if the answer is no, then a better player basically got cut to save money.
Salary cap is a big pie and there are only so many pieces. How big of a slice a player gets dictates how much of a slice another player gets.

I haven't heard the 18M before, the highest I've heard is 16 from people who don't know. it's been reported that the Jets have offered 12 M but nothing guaranteed beyond that. IMO Fitz will take the 12M this year, but wants some guaranteed money down the road. Something will get done the Jets clearly don't want smith to start.

I was referring to the Bradford contract and the "starting QB wage scale" I keep reading about.
I am with you, I think Fitz will end up finally signing the 12 million deal.

18 is inaccurate. Rumor is Fitz wanted 13-14 Jets gave him 12. The problem isn't the first year, it's the 6 mill years 2 and 3,that he doesn't like. And honestly, if you give the guy 12, 6 doesn't make sense. You're saying we believe you're worth the money this year, but next year we expect you to suck. If Fitz plays at the same level or grows with this offense, you're not benching him.

The qb wage scale I've been hearing for Fitz, is near the chase daniels and Nick foles deals, which this Jets offer is similar to the foles deal. Except for the steep drop years 2 and 3.

The 6M does make sense because the Jets know he might be a one year stop gap. They can structure the second year with incentives if he is good enough to keep the job. The 3rd year is a waste because we better have something better than Ryan Fitzpatrick by then. Pay him the $12M this year and make it a one year deal. Keep proving your can produce the same stats and actually win a meaningful game and then we will pay him more the next year.

You have to remember, both sides need to like the deal. Fitz believes in himself, he's not going to lock himself into an automatic 50%pay cut.

Right now he has four options. Take the Jets deal. Retire. Wait until somebody gets hurt. Or be a backup for probably same as he made this year. The Jets know this and are willing to take the risk. They aren't going to just give him extra money just because Fitz thinks he is better than he has proven over an entire career.

What you and I think, or justify, doesn't matter. The Jets offered him 12 the first year, that's the value they assigned him not me. It's inconsistent, and unreasonable to tell any player we think you're worth 12 this year, and you going to be useless the following year.
If the Jets don't make year 2 more consistent with year 1, this goes to camp.

Yep, this is exactly what's going on and it's getting a lil silly. Just like we understand what the Jets are trying to do, so does Fitz. They want him to be the starter this year, and a baby sitter/back up , for the next two years, with no money guaranteed, but he is bound to them for 6 M.

On the far fetched scenario that he were to have an excellent year, and say win a Super Bowl, he would still be bound to them by contract for two years at 6.

What they want is him to baby sit, Petty, Hackenberg this year, and hopefully both develop and have them as Starter/backup in 2017. Fitz wants some guarantee he won't just be released in 2017.

Aside from incentives in 2017, 2018, he probably wants the 6 M guaranteed, then with incentives in case he's still the starter. The Jets are saying "no one else is bidding". Form Fitz's position, he would be better off with a 1 year 12 M contract. Both sides have a point, it's time for one of them, or both to compromise.

Fitz's only card is that if he isn't on the team smith will start, and he knows the Jets don't want that.

Okay, you keep saying this and I don't think that is what it means at all. It is called front-loading the contract; no one looks at each year's salary separately anymore in this salary-cap NFL, it is the AAV of the contract that matters, not when the $'s actually get paid out. It is something that makes sense for the Jets to do with Fitzpatrick because I think they see a significant chance that he will be their starting QB this coming season but after that it will hopefully be time to hand over the keys to one of the young QBS. Fitz would still be worth having on the team as a mentor and experienced backup. In any event, according to the latest reports the Jets' contract offer to Fitzpatrick has $15M guaranteed over the life of the deal, and that's more than I think he is worth, especially since no one else is willing to pay him even half that much.

Reports are the squabble is about the backend, not overall value or guarantees. He wants more money years 2 and 3, I say we give it to him but make him earn it. If we keep starting him, it means he's our best option. If we bench him, he doesn't see that money, and it's because he didn't perform. That protects both sides, and provides money that matches the value he realizes.

All are back at practice, and are now answering questions with company answers. They had a talking to. Point made, back to work.
