Brandon Marshall says he’d take pay cut to remain with Jets

Brandon Marshall is coming off his worst statistical season since he was a rookie in 2006. And it came at an inopportune juncture of his career.

The 32-year-old Marshall is slated to make $7.5 million next season, but none of that money is guaranteed. The Jets could save it all by cutting Marshall in the offseason.

Marshall, though, has every intention of returning to Gang Green — even if that means taking a pay cut.

"I would love to be back," Marshall said Monday in Florham Park. "It's not about the money anymore. It's all about winning. I know what I'm worth. I think this team knows what I'm worth as far as the organization. But it's not about the money. I'm good. I'm good with the money. I just want to win. That's all I want to do."

When asked if he'd consider coming back to the Jets for less money, Marshall said, "I'll play for free. My bills are paid."

Marshall finished 2016 with 59 catches for 788 yards and three touchdowns. It was just the third time in his career he totaled fewer than 1,000 receiving yards. And it was the only season other than his rookie campaign in which he failed to haul in 60 catches.
"I'm extremely confident that I'm still an elite receiver," Marshall said.

Marshall divulged Monday that he was dealing with both an MCL sprain in his knee and a fifth metatarsal injury in his foot for virtually the entire season. He suffered the injuries in a Week 2 win over the Bills when he was tackled from behind and twisted his leg. Marshall said the foot problem was the bigger of the two issues.

Still, Marshall refused to use the ailments as an excuse. He called this season the "most frustrating year" of his career.
"The numbers wasn't there. That's new for me," Marshall said. "This is a year that most receivers can hang their hat on. Not for me. The bar is set high, and it's unacceptable."

Marshall has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL during his 11-year career. But he has never played in a playoff game. It's a maddening reality that hangs over Marshall's head, and he said Monday we wouldn't be satisfied with his career if he retires without a postseason appearance.

Marshall said he wants to play until he's 38 or 39 years old.

"My only motive is to win ballgames," Marshall said. "I'm tired of going home right after the season. I'm tired of watching the playoffs on my couch. I'm tired of it. And it's just a frustrating year. It's been a frustrating career from that aspect, and hopefully things change moving forward."

If the deal is right I'd like how m to stay. He proven to be a good target and would help a young QB next year!!

My only question is how much of a locker-room issue did he cause this year. On the outside he seems like a decent guy, but apparently the problem between he and Richardson was a big problem from the Chiefs game through the end of the season. Not sure what happened but the team shit the bed from that point on. If so, I would move on and go with the young guys + Decker if healthy.

Marshall wants to win & he plays harder then most of the entire JETS Team. Think of Brandens view of playing hard & see Wilkerson-Richardson-Revis making no effort. Top it off rookie Williams started taking plays off from watching those 3 jacka$$es doing that. Offense Side Everyone played hard but the Buffalo Bills Boys Gailey/Fitz destroyed any chance of that by week 3. Brandon Marshall makes other WR's better like Enua who learned a lot from Marshall. Keep everyone on Offense except Fitz. Keep Wilk-Williams-Richardson till you can get value from them in a trade & can(fire)cut the rest of the Defense including LB 1st round pick that is hopeless. Speed based Draft pick that got how many sacks? Marshall isnt the Problem on Jets. Its GM-HC -OC-DC from cruddy Drafting/Play Calling on Offense/Defense to allowing Players to miss & be late to work & give no effort all season on Defense. Marshall called them out. BTW, do we have a TE on Jets? I havent seen one in last 2 years or do we not design passing plays for one?

So it's everyone's fault except Marshall?

Apparently, his halftime "speech" didn't go over very well with a lot of players during the last New England game. Regardless, he's a 32 year old receiver who makes too many drops at big moments. If this team is serious about a rebuild, they've gotta move forward with youth, or at least players under 30. Marshall's contract doesn't coincide with that. Now if he REALLY will take a significant pay cut to stay, then maybe you keep him. But none of us were inside that locker room this season, and if he's got more enemies than just Sheldon, then drop him.

Overpaid players and locker room cancers must go.

Look I know everyone thinks I hate Marshall ......But I don't....He is just a loser......but as I have said before Losers can become winners......If he takes the cut & TB puts him on the right path why not.....That being said we are not on the field with him or in the locker room......If he is bad then he must go. But under the right conditions he can stay......I will be his biggest supporter if he grows up.

But he is still a loser as of today.
