Well some Jet fans loved Kenny O but lets look at their td's both passing and rushing. In 129 games Kenny had 128 tds and 98 picks. Fitz in 97 games has 134 tds and 101 picks not bad for a 7th rd pick considering we passed on Marino for Kenny in the 1st rd..:hopelessness:
O'Brien is unfairly treated by this fan base, mainly because the team passed on Marino. If Marino had been picked earlier, and the team took O'Brien, I think the fan base would have a completely different opinion of him.
He had 2 good years 85 and 86 I agree he had a good arm but terrible pocket presence and never learned to throw the ball away.. If Sanchez sucked(which he did) how was Kenny anything special?? At least Sanchez put up some playoff wins..
Agreed, I spent fifteen years lamenting the choice of O'Brien over Marino, I still think its the single worst decision in franchise history, because IMO Marino is the best pocket passer in NFL history, but if you remove that horrendous decision from the equation and just judge Ken O'Brien in a vacuum, I think he's the best QB we've drafted since Namath. That doesn't make him a Great QB and it may not be saying much considering the collection of poor to average QB's we've drafted since Namath, but IMO O'Brien was a good pocket passer if you could put a decent O-line in front of him and give him time to operate from the pocket. He had passing games that guys like Mark Sanchez can only dream about having.O'Brien is unfairly treated by this fan base, mainly because the team passed on Marino. Little bit of an unfair criticism in my view. In that era GM's were not looking for QB's who could run, they were looking for pocket passers. If they could run too it was gravy, but mostly they wanted a guy who could sit in the pocket and throw bullseyes. There were a few QB's who could run, the Staubach's and Tarkenton's, but most of the elite QB's in the 70's and 80's couldn't run a lick, just like O'Brien. Bradshaw, Marino, Fouts, Bert Jones etc., some of the most feared and successful QB's in the league were traditional pocket passers who couldn't beat ME in a foot race.I don't think so. O'Brien had a great arm but zero QB instincts. On 4th down with an open field instead of running he would throw the ball away; He was an absolute statute who was slow and couldn't run. He never scored a rushing TD in is career, that unbelievable!

Those are my feeling on Kenny also.O'Brien is unfairly treated by this fan base, mainly because the team passed on Marino. If Marino had been picked earlier, and the team took O'Brien, I think the fan base would have a completely different opinion of him.

like hammer said, kenny is our best QB drafted since namath & i was a fan of his..I think his pocket presence, or lack of it, had to do with what was at times a porous offensive line.
