The Jets and guard Brian Winters have signed a four-year contract extension.

Winters had become a fixture on the Jets offensive line before going on Injured Reserve after Game 14 against Miami with a shoulder injury. He was the Jets' third-round pick (72nd overall) of the 2013 draft out of Kent State and became the left guard starter in Game 5 of his rookie season. He started the first six games at LG in 2014 before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

In 2015, Winters returned as a RG, filling in for and then replacing the injured Willie Colon and making 10 starts. This season he started 13 games.

Let's hope that he stays healthy, performs at a decent level and that you rarely hear his name called on penalties lest he become the Winters of our discontent

One of the positives is that he is one of the few players entering what should be his peak years. Due to several horrific drafts, the jets have a hole in their roster: lots of older players and rookies. Too few players of Winters' age and experience.

This is a good deal. Our oline isn't too bad. We just need a left tackle.

Assuming Shell is the answer at RT.

The Winters signing is the first positive thing this team can feel good about in a while. You've gotta retain your good young players, and Winters has certainly become that. Good deal. He and Carpenter are solid starters at Guard.

He has developed into a very good Guard... This to me was priority #1 and now that it's done we need to focus on Left Tackle.... I like Shell and Qvale at RT.. Let's get this OL right and ready for whatever QB we have starting next year.
