Bridgewater won’t say if his knee injury will affect his offseason work

Jets quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has only $500,000 guaranteed on his new contract, which means if he doesn’t look good in offseason work, the team could easily release him and walk away. So it’s not a great sign that he won’t say whether he’s confident his bad knee will allow him to go through offseason work.

Asked today by New York reporters whether he’ll be able to participate in spring workouts, Bridgewater declined to answer.

“That’s something I’m not comfortable talking about right now,” Bridgewater said. “I’m pretty sure that’ll be a discussion that I have with the training staff. We’ll come up with a plan moving forward.”

Bridgewater suffered a severe injury in August of 2016 that forced him to miss all of that season, and he only appeared in one game in 2017. But he does say he’ll be ready to play when the season starts.

“I’m very confident,” Bridgewater said. “I’m confident in myself. I’m confident in the athletic training staff and the coaching staff here that they can eventually get me back to the player that I once was… But we’re only in March. The only way to get better is put the work in now. . . . I just can’t wait. I’m excited.”

But while Bridgewater says he can’t wait, his answers suggest that it might be a wait of several months before he’s participating in on-field drills.

he may just want to play things close to the vest and not have this be a topic in the media - if he sits out an afternoon etc doesnt want pressure. He's healthy enough or he aint

Part of me thinks his health is the reason the Jets moved up 3 spots and why the Vikings didn't make any attempt to re-sign him. I think they know he isn't ready and I think he gets cut after the Jets draft a QB. They only guaranteed Teddy B $500K and they also signed McCown. Jets draft a QB @ #3 and plan to let him learn behind McCown for a year or less.

Correct me if i'm wrong but is Zimmer allowed to talk about a player under contract by another team like that? Especially about his health or wellbeing? I know there are HIPPA laws that prevent as much.
I'd like to see the Jets file tampering charges against the Vikes, if even to just shut them up.
Zimmer is just trying to back door an excuse as to why they signed Cousins and didn't try and keep Bridgewater around.
If Teddy is healthy and starts for the Jets this year and looks good doing it, the Vikings are going to look like ass holes. Especially if Cousins struggles, because it's superbowl or bust for them.
The Vikings went to the NFC championship game with Case F'in Keenum, now they got 28 million dollar man Cousins,if it's not the superbowl it's a failed season for the Vikings.God luck with that. We've all seen how Cousins plays under pressure.

Bingo and .... Bingo.
His head should be reeling because of federal and league fines and/ or lawsuits.
But the NFL owners are a big boys club and they probably won't fine him much.
But the federal charge has legs if the feds want to pursue it.

Zimmer doesn’t pull any punches. He threw Keenum, Bridgewater and Bradford all under the bus in a moment of brutal honesty when discussing the acquisition of Cousins.

I agree, Super Bowl or bust. But for me, that's the 3-5 year plan. It's not just 2018-19.

I've seen enough wild cards, division titles, and conference title games. I've had enough of those. I want a team built to win it all.

The thing is, I know it takes time, and I do not want a team that builds for one year with a bunch of older free agents. I've seen enough of that, too.
